OK, this is almost complicated.....
I buy fresh and freeze it (a months worth), from there it goes to Tupperware in the fridge (a weeks worth), and from there it goes to smaller Tupperware in their food drawer (a few days worth). That includes their seed, their pellets and their nutirberries. The soak seed I buy enough for six months and freeze half, the other half is kept in the cupboard.

Yes, keeping food in the refrigerator will keep it fresher longer than at room temp. Freezer works even better for storing.

I store everything in the freezer, nuts, treats, bags of food, millet etc., and i only put a small tupperwares worth in the fridge for weekly use. I've never had a problem with moths this way. My parents have a breeder pair of Major Michell Too's and kept all the food in containers in the bird room, and had to throw it all out due to lots of moths- they started freezing and storing stuff in the fridge and never had a problem. The seeds smell fresher out of the fridge i think lol :)

I know this works for my porridge oats. I think the idea is that the moth lays eggs still, but the maggots/carapillars hatch outside of the outter bag and die before they can reach your seeds in the inner bag! Lack of food. But I would add this does not stop Weavels if they are already in the seed! Old Stock. I always break open any seed I buy, as I have seen a lot of old dry seed on the market. Fresh is best, as any mold in the old seed will not disapper in the fridge or Freezer. Lisege: The maggots would be good protin, but it's the feces of the maggots and the molds that then start the decay of the seed and case. I would worry about.
