Laying in his FOOD??

My 8 week old Sennie keeps stepping into his food dish and kicking the pellets and seeds out. This morning I made him some oatmeal/fruit mash and he loved it, but then there was some left on the bottom and before I could come back to clean his bowl he sat in the dish kicking his feet and rolling and he had oatmeal all over his under feathers!

Is this normal behavior? We are watching this little guy because he was pulled very late from his mother.

Any thoughts out there?

Sounds like nesting behavior to me, but I'm no expert.

I have one female budgie that makes a huge mess that way. If I let the budgies play in the conure's flight cage (when he's out of course) she will scatter pellets all over the place too.

I just ordered a special feeder that the birds have to go into in order to feed on their seeds. Not sure what you can do about your Sennie though!

Oh I just had another thought! Maybe Sennie is taking a bath! When I give my budgies wet lettuce leaves on the bottom of the cage they roll around in them and fluff their feathers like they are in a bird bath.

It must look cute but still be a mess!

Silly birds.... it does kind of sound like taking a bath to me too!
