baby quail pics

Finally I have baby quail after a few hiccups over time. These guys must have hatched overnight 'cos they weren't there yesterday. Looks like 2 silver and 3 brown.

With mum (dad is now in the aviary next door in case he tries to attack)

Size comparison next to the sunflower seed.

Just the cutest little fluffballs

My god they are cute! King quail? Did mum hatch them by herself? If so, well done because it's a rare thing indeed. Most of the maternal instinct is being bred out of quails. My boyfriend has californian quail that hatch and raise their own chicks, and the chicks are always in high demand indeed! Last year the pair hatched and raised 17 in one clutch, which is phenomenal

Oh I want quails for the bottom of my new aviary but there is mold on the bottom! I don't know how to get rid of it but until I do I can't have any quail :( I once incubated them at the school farm and they hatched and thought I was the mother and followed me everywhere and ate from my hand- I want that again! They are too cute Abby!

(is the invite too come live with you still open? :)

Yep they're king quail. It's taken probably a year for me to end up with these babes. I've just left the pair to do their own thing. She's certainly been sitting tight on them. Silly bird laid them right at the front of the aviary inside the door where there's limited protection. Had to remember every time you went in not to step on the eggs. Now it's watching out for the babies. Mum seems really good with the bubs so far. I have taken dad out and out him in the aviary next door. A friend warned me that the males can turn on the chicks and kill them.

Are you sure they are King quail? Look almost like Button Quail (Japanese Painted Quail)?

What are you feeding them, isn't the seed in the picture too big for them? And how are you watering them? Have to be careful by giving a very shallow lid or something similar (suggestion: put clean pebbles in whatever you use so they can sip water from betweem them and not get wet while drinking).
