Freezing veg for birds

Would it be possible to say cook up some veg, for example, say cook up some broccoli, carrots and sweetcorn, then make like a mash out of it, then freeze it into small portion for later use?

I dont mean as an every day replacement for fresh fruit/veg, but i was thinking more for like, for example, i am going away on holiday for 2 weeks in september 2010, (so not for over a year yet) and my birds will be staying with my boyfriends parents, (which they have a couple of times but never this long) and i thought it would be helpful for them to have some pre-made portion to give them a few times a week, then i know they are getting a good diet when im away and takes a bit of the pressure off of me and them a bit.

Its just a thought, what do you think? Or does anyone have any other ideas along these sort of lines?

My boyfriends parents have always be fantastic with my birds and always take brilliant care and do everything i ask of them (fresh water when needed, fresh fruit/veg and lots of time out of the cage spent with them) so i would like to do something that will help them when they take them for 2 weeks.

Sure, I do it all the time.. my freezer is full of random stuff... Vegetables... vegetable bakes with brown rice and wholegrain pasta and lentils...

What I do is I freeze them in those little small sized foil disposable containers, then take one out and put it in the fridge - once defrosted it has to be used within a couple days; but then all I do to reheat it is poor boiling water over it and drain it. Perfect for when you dont have enough time to cut up fresh vegies!

I make different mixes too.. one container might have no grains.. another might have rice, another might have lentils mixed in... you can even do it with fruit... I make fruit salads, put it in large icecube trays, then when they are frozen put them in a container ^_^ - makes a good treat for summer by just giving it to them still frozen

Thats pure genious by the way! and an idea i will definatly be using!

I spose you could actually make loads of different things to put in the in ice cube trays, as (for me anyway) one cube would be perfect Cockatiel/lovebird size portions!

It just seems so simple i cant believe i didnt think of it!!

This is exactly the way I feed my baby every day. I buy bags of frozen vegs, defrost them, and put them into little baggies, along with beans. Every day I take a bag out, microwave it, and give it to her. She doesn't like fresh vegs or fruit.

I do it all the time too, except I freeze in a silicone muffin tray and then after an hour or so I pop them out (sometimes by running it under hot water) and into a ziplock.

I usually do a grain/veggie mix. When you go to defrost, I have found it easiest to just put th cube in water and then strain it.
