Angry I am in utter disbelief! rant

I am a member on dog/cat forums, I am a member on bird forums, and I can't tell you how many times I see posts saying "help my dog/cat/bird is sick"!

Seriously are people that freaking ignorant to not KNOW to take it to the vet??? The time it takes to post a thread and then wait for answers (which the answer we all will tell you is to take it to the vet ASAP) you are loosing way to much precious time.

If your child was sick would you post a thread saying "my son is really sick...what do I do, or what do you think he has"??? Would not seeing a professional medical DR. be the first thing that crosses your mind!!!!

I just honestly can not believe it sometimes!

I think a lot of the time the person is asking for validation that they don't need to take their animal to the vet i.e. spend money.

I would rather have to spend $$$ even if I didn't have it to make sure my pet was okay, than take a risk in loosing it and it suffer in pain etc!

Good point... no one wants to be known as a hypochondriac... also, some people, in today's economy, can't afford to waste money for a vet on "maybe it's sick"... they will spend the money if the pet is truly ill... but if a person is on a fixed income, and they spend $60 ++ for a vet to tell them their pet is fine... that could be alot of moeny to some people to "throw away"... so they ask the forums, who they trust have knowledgeable people there, first...

I do it... and I'm not poor... just don't want my vet to think I'm neurotic, LOL, which he probably already does, given how many pets I have....

LOL sorry I always hope people see my :D to mean I'm laughing (not at them)!

Dana, every vet I've ever used has thought I was neurotic too. Still I'd rather be safe than sorry.

well we don't have any $$ right now because Hubby has been laid off since 12/24, but everyone knows their pet. If you think it is bad then why even post and ask!

we just spend 300.00 that we don't have on my Rottweiler that we wnded up haveing to put down. But I wasn't going to sit there and watch my baby be in horrible pain and suffering. And I don't recall coming on here saying "help my dog can barely walk and moaning in pain, what should I do"!!! No I immedietly took her to the vet and started pain meds. THEN I came on here seeking advice from other's that had possibly the same situation and could help with suggestions!

I think you hit the nail on the head. Most people can't afford to go to the vet, or aren't sure if their pet is really sick or not. So they ask for advice to see if what they're observing is a sign of a serious illness, or if it's a normal behavior, or if it's something that can be remedied at home.

For me, I did both with Boo. I asked for insight but still took him to the vet as soon as I could. That's just me, though...others might not have the disposable income I have (I'm not wealthy, I just live with my family -- thankfully they're an understanding bunch ) to be able to rush their pet to the vet at every sneeze.

My pet happened to be truly sick and needed vet care. $150 later, I'm glad I went and I'm also grateful for the insight I received from others on this board, which helped point me in the right direction.

But I agree, MMR...in cases where a vet visit is warranted, those minutes wasted are important opportunities lost...unless you would have spent those minutes idling away the time anyway. (Like me, when I was waiting until it was time for Boo's appointment ;p )

That said...yeah, there are likely a number of individuals out there who are just a few cards shy of a full deck.
