New Bird :)

Well, some of you know I lost Boo, my Sun Conure, a few months ago.. I was devastated.. (But that's another story)

Anyway, I didn't think I could get another bird. It hurt to even think about it. But i was speaking to one of my customers and it turned out she was an Eclectus breeder and had a little girl who was recovering from a really bad sinus infection that she got from when she was hand feeding. About a week later she was driving past with her after being at the vet and bought her in so I could see her. I fell in love pretty much straight away. She's slightly brain damaged and blind in one eye and completely gorgeous. She moves her head CONSTANTLY as she can't see out one side so it's a little sad to watch, but so endearing.. She needed a good home and i knew that i could give her one.

I picked her up today and bought her home. She was really freaked out this morning, I put her in her cage and just sat next to her on my laptop just talking to her. She sat stock still for about half an hour before moving around, eating some apple and ripping up the newspaper on the bottom! I named her Lexi. Tonight when i got home she snuggled with me on the couch and then i set some new toys into the cage. She's sleeping now.

I have to admit, after losing Boo with absolutely no warning i am really scared. i don't want anything to happen to her! The vet seems to think that other than the blindness she'll make a complete recovery. I wish you all could see her, she's amazing!

I took a video tonight after I put the new toys in. I think she was a little over stimulated, there was sooo much to look at, lol.. her head was swivelling like crazy! I'll post it up here tomorrow.

I hope you liked my story. I'm just so happy and scared at the same time that I needed to get it off my chest. Thanks for reading.

She's beautiful! Did they say how she became blind? Or was she just born that way? She's so young to have gone through so much. Glad you have her.

Wow Lexi is beautiful. She sounds sweet, I hope she continues to settle in nicely.
((((Kali))))) I hope she helps you with the healing process. I lost my quaker parakeet about two years ago, we were very close and it just devastated me.. and I bought a ringneck about a month afterwards (though it was a tough decision to make, my other cockatiel was lonely) and he really helped lighten the mood for us ... he could never replace my quaker of course, but looking back I'm very glad I brought Benny home!
