*making a mental note*

Apparently, I should not put my face near my lorikeet's beak and blow a raspberry in her face when she is making her *monster noises* and telling me to "piss off!" Owch.

Thanks Matt, I have to agree with you! For her 2 years of life, she had NEVER bitten my face before! I guess she meant it this time when she told me to PO :(

Ah, that had to have HURT!! Rico makes this 'farting' noise if he's picking a scab and you try to stop him. Well, if you do it back to him (the noise) he gets really ticked and will try to grab your lip. Luckily, we've been faster than him so far. I wonder what it is about that noise that makes them react that way?

Ahhh - yes... reading "bird body language" is an art it seems... But we learn - through these "mental notes!"

I was thinking (you probably know it already, but I wanted it in print)...in there language like the OP said, it probably means an insult. Saying it back to them is like daring them to do something?

No, I really didn't think of it that way! OMG... I don't know why I didn't, though it makes perfect sense. I just thought it was odd, and kind of funny!

PMSL, that will teach you Mel. Yeah I know lorikeet bites hurt, just getting the mental image.

Arthur puts his foot up for raspberries to be blown on it. Odd but there ya go.

She really must have been in a mood- I know her body language and when she's like that she will lunge but just nibble my face in an affectionate way; equivalent to play fighting for dogs I guess. Little did I know that this time, she meant it in every language she knew (from english to bird!!) I have a nice red lump on my upper lip now :)

Jag - I never thought farting sounds could sound so cute! haha I think rather than offensive (may be anthropomorphizing) it might just be a sound tha that triggers an aggressive response. I blame my mum for Ashling's "PO" because whenever Ash was being a grump in her cage at night, mum would say "piss off" to try and teach her to swear (against my wishes of course) and Ash learned to associate this with being grumpy and lunging and biting (up till now biting anyone EXCEPT me!)

Abby Arthur sounds so quirky! Ash usually loves raspberries :(
