More good news! :d

Remember how i told you guys i found Cookie's breeder!?!? Well, she had Toc too! i never knew that! .. what she told me wasn't all good news, but i'm happy to know more of my babies past! :D

Here are her email to me!.

Your Welcome anytime : )

The lady who bought Cookie was here on a few occasions as cookie wasn't fully weaned. We had little Tuck in a cage by himself, she showed interest in little Tuck on a few occasions. When Cookie was ready I offered her Tuck for free with intentions that if she ever had any problems that he was more then welcome to come back. And that Tuck would have to be caged separately as he was known to chew his clutch mates feathers. The reason why I offered him was that some of his his plucking habits could be caused by having other birds around him and that it made him nervous. As he's on the nervous side. When talking to Lise she told me on a few occasions that he was getting better, but I really wondered... Tuck came to us housed with his brother, the two would fight to almost death so I separated them and from then on he started to destroy his feathers. I then tried him with a female and he plucked the top of her head bald and being a little aggravated with her, so I was forced to separate them. We kept him house alone and we moved him away from the birds but still had no luck with his feathers. So when Lise showed interest in him, and that she didn't care he was plucked as I told her that he would probably never come out of it, I figured he would probably do better there as our other birds may be contributing in his nervousness. We tried a few different things with him with no success. Parrotlets are known for there plucking there's not much you can do for there plucking habits when they start. They are also known for there big bird personality in a tiny body, I can see the two have bonded if placed together in one cage. She should of never have placed them together like that as there not really a good match together. I would most definitely separate them. If you have the time and patience to watch them have play time together that's ok but I wouldn't let them live together in the same cage.

Now for Cookie she should have had more then cockatiel seeds. There seed mixture should contain dehydrated fruits & veggies ( Papaya, Pineapple, Coconut, Carrots, Banana chips) peanuts, Pine nuts, pellets and seeds. We buy our Conure food from www.healthybird.net we always add different things to it like extra pellets (Zupreen) or a variety of nuts and a few more extra cubes of dehydrated fruit. We give them fresh apple, grapes, watermelon, Blackberries..ect For veggies Peas, string beans, Carrots, Corn, sweet potatos, squash... It's not all our babies that will eat everything in front of them we do get some that are a little picky at times, But with introducing it to them and trying to make it fun like letting them see you eat some will sometime make them try what your eating. We also make mash, Mash is just a variety of foods cooked together to make a mash. Most of all the veggies that we give to the Conures are cooked a little that may make a difference. A conures favorite would be apples & corn... Apples are really good for there liver and the corn is a little fatty but not that bad.

Talk to you soon : )

Erica

She was also able to provide me with Cookie's hatchdate! Nov. 9th 2009!

How wonderful for the fids. I think you meant she was born November 08. It is nice to know the hatch dates, makes it easier to keep up with the hormones.

Hah oops! I dont know why i put 2009 - i meant 2006! And yeah, i couldn't beleive it! Lise, Cookie's previous owner told us she's "rescued" Toc (or Tuck?? My sisters thinking about changing his name back.. but i like Toc) him from an overstocked breeder and kept in a cage all alone with no toys and that he was neglected, and i dont beleive that at all anymore! it sounds like Erica was just trying to help him get over his problems!

She sounds very genuine to me about Toc/Tuck's situation...and it's understandable that if he exhibited such violent behavior he'd be kept "all alone".

Some fids just prefer to be a alone...the woman you got him from just seems to have assumed that that's a bad thing for ALL birds. My question is if she's such an awesome selfish rescuer, why was she giving up two birds in the first place? ;)

A really cool story though...thank you for sharing! Toc's sitch sounded terribly sad...i'm glad he found a good home!

I know, i was sad about Tocs past, but i think hes happier here.. He's gotten some new feathers on his back he hasn't done away with yet - so thats good :) I dont think he doesnt like other birds, though... Well, maybe he does, but he's VERY attached to Cookie and the separation was hard on them, but it had to be done!

Oh, and their previous owner loved them VERY much. they were spoiled rotten! (and still are :P ) i think she just didn't know how to properly care for them.. I'm pretty sure she had to give them up because of an illness.
