I need some help with my cockatiel. Egg laying.
I have always had male birds untill now so I am not sure what to do. I remember reading up on this subject a long time ago but I am unsure what to do now. I need some answers. I have one female bird no otheres. I have been noticing she has been doing her normal female things like setting down an lightly screeching witch I think is normal for females. I have also always tried avoiding her laying an egg since I have had her witch has worked out. Lately she was acting weird not letting my girlfreind near her. This dose happen now an then since she is in love with me she kinda ignores her now an then.. But I noticed her doing her thing in the corner where she makes chirps an opens her wings slightly. Well today I cleaned her cage and the house. I finished up an my girlfreind wanted to move her cage to anothere spot in the house. Witch I normaly do every month but she has been in the same spot for a while now. When my girlfreind was moving the cage she said "Hey hey" As the bird was being very angery about the move. well I figuered it is just the bird acting up twards her witch she dose now an then. So I took the cage from her an moved it for her, and thats when I noticed the agg. Do I take it away now? Do I leave it? And I know she needs calcium, what is the best thing to provide her with this? Also what should I do to stop her from laying more eggs? and should I expect more within a certain time frame? She is the best bird I have ever had and I take very good care of her. Do I need to make sure no eggs get stuck? If so how do I know if one it?
This is uncharted territory for me.. Thanks alot for any help at all. |

Aww, what an adorable tiel. I have always been advised that if a bird lays an egg to leave it and she will eventually abandon the egg. If you take it away, she will just lay another egg which you really do not want. You can try to remove it and replace with an artifical egg, but in my experience the hen normally just gives up and abandons the egg.
As for the extra calcium, give her eggs, broccoli anything high in calcium. You can buy a calcium supplement for her food too. But it is better if she gets it from her diet. You really want to make sure she is getting alot of calcium as laying eggs depletes her supply and any subsequent eggs can have a soft shell resulting in the egg breaking inside the bird. So extra calcium is the first thing to do for her. Good luck with your cutie.

Thank you very much. I was in beliveing that leaving it would be best. since I know that she is in egg making mode an would make another. I think I have some good veggies to give her.
MY girlfreind says it is because she is in love with me, and that the kids mine... She is def attached to me. |

I have one tiel and she is in love with my husband. She will sing and chirp with her head back and chest puffed out when she is with him. She is a sweet bird and likes the rest of the family, but prefers my husband. That reallly is a tiel trait, they really are a one person bird but their normally easy going nature makes them a great bird to own. I do love the picture of yours...............she is sooooo into that sleeping hut.
