What to use as an air freshner?

What do you guys use for an air freshner? I know not to use candles and any plug ins or sprays for air freshners, but we live in an apartment and it's a smaller space and I want the aptartment to smell good. I open the windows as much as I can, but it has been raining a lot and been to hot to leave the windows open. Rocky seems to be really sensitive to tempature changes, so i try not to open the windows to often . I just want a way to make the apartment smell fresh and clean, just not sure what I should use?

You can boil cinnamon, orange, or apples on the stove. It makes the place smell fantastic. ^^

Especially cinnamon....I remember when my mother used to do that alll the time.

Since candles and air fresheners can hurt our bird's lungs, most people don't recommend using them around birds. A friend of mine simmers cinnamon sticks, apples, vanilla, and other spices in a pot on the stove (make sure your bird can't access it though!). She says that it is better for the birds than artifical "smelly" products. Personally, we bake cookies or birdie bread if it starts smelling.

I have often put cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves or pumpkin pie spice in a pot of water to simmer on the stove. The whole house smells great in no time flat!!

I don't know if this would work but you know how they say to light a match in the bathroom when it stinks? Well maybe that could work for every smell and in other rooms? :/

I like using the old Potpourri burner for citrus peels, slices of ginger, cinnamon and apples.
Makes the house smell Gooood! Lime rinds and ginger root slices are my fave.
I like the pumpkin spice idea Mary, gonna have to try that one.

I am so excited I read this post, I am a candle fanatic and I just got my GW last week, and I was so worried about it. Her previous owners said they used them, but I wasnt sure how I would feel doing this. I like the ideas on here and it makes sense that this would smell better than the candles. Especially the cinnamon! It's my favorite. What did you use for pumpkin spice? I used to sell partylite and that was my favorite scent next to cinnamon sticks and it only comes out in the fall and since I cant have them, I can make my own all year round. Just need to know what you guys use. Thanks.

On another note what do you guys use to clean with. I am a clean FANATIC and was once a bleach freak. I know that all of my usual cleaning supplies are out. So this past week it has been vinegar and water or dish soap. Any other ideas? Would that greenworks stuff be a good alternative? I hate the smell of vinegar.
