Exclamation hELP MY BIRDS TOE??**graphic**

MY PARAKEET WAS PLAYING WITH A TOY WITH A JINGLE BALL AT THE END OF IT BU SHE NEVER REALLY PLAYED WITH TOYS BIT THIS ONE SHE LOVED SO I THOUGHT HOW CAN I TAKE IT AWAY FROM HER BU SHE GOT HER TOE STUCK IN THE SLOT OF THE BELL. I READ ONLINE Y=THAT BIRDS CAN PUT THEIR TOE BACK IN PLACE AND THAT IT DOES NOT BOTHER THEM SO ITHOUGHT I SHOULD JUST LET HER BE AND TAKE CARE OF IT HERSELF SO ITS BEEN A MONTH AND HER TOE LOOKS LIKE IT IS GOING TO FALL OFF. I DON'T WANT TO GET A HUGE VET BILL FOR A PARAKEET TOE AND JUST HAVE THEM TELL ME IT WILL DO ITS OWN THING AND THEY CAN'T HELP HER BECAUSE SHE IS SO SMALL. SO CAN ANY ONE TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD DO?, its been like this for about a month but nothing has happened yet, it also does not seem to bother her one bit.

I can also assure you that birds DO NOT repair broken bones, skin lacerations etc on their own! I suggest you get her to the vet!

i think you should get her a vet, too . you've already made her wait a month and it hasn't gotten better, so a vet would be the best thing to do.

A month? Holy cow bring that bird to the vet!

I don't know where you read that it should be "let be" for a month... but that simply does not make sense. If you broke your toe... would you wait a month?

Please let us know what the vet says.

Please take your parakeet (budgie?) to a veterinarian who has experience with parrots. She may be in a considerable amount of pain.

If you are in the US, you can find a board-certified avian practicioner using this search engine: certification, species, credentialing, veterinary clinical practice, vet, abvp

You can also find a vet who lists with the Association of Avian Veterinarians here (includes international listings): The Association of Avian Veterinarians | Association

I can't even believe they make bird toys with jingle bells still!

Unfortunately, birds have a very bad tendency to hide pain and discomfort. Get that baby to the vet, stat!

They may be talking about wild birds' uncanny ability to come through breaks and injuries...but your bird is not wild and even if you just have to pay the lower amount for a consultation IT IS WORTH IT.

Vet. Go. Immediately.

Good luck! <3

Thats so weird because we were just talking about this type of toy on another thread somewhere and the dangers of getting their toes stuck. Poor thing!

if you still think your inexpensive bird is not worth a vet bill. if its not to late and there is no infection, please keep it clean, and the bad part will simply turn black, and fall off. that should have happened way before this long, so it may be infected, get worse, and kill your bird. a vet may have to take the whole foot off by now. please keep us posted.
