My poor baby lives in a cage that I desperately want to replace. It was a gift, and to their credit they had no idea that the cage is barely the right size for a baby parrot (25"L X 21"W X 30"H). Thankfully Delenn doesn't seem to notice too much because where she was purchased, the cage was even smaller.
I just want to reassure you guys that despite the fact we all know its a bad cage, she seems content at the moment all things considered. She has 6 toys (finally! she only had one at the store

) and never squabbles when I put it back in the cage. In fact, she attacks a toy and chatters to herself happily. I also make sure that despite the fact I work 40-50 hours a week, she gets 3-4 hours minimum of outside time per day weekdays. Weekends she is out about 10 hours a day. Lately she's been out more since I've been home from work sick. She's getting a new playstand sometime this week (its shipping!).
She's only been in the "bad" cage for a month, but I plan on replacing it within the next paycheck or so (2-4 weeks). Its getting hard on my nerves knowing its not the best fit for her, but I can't rush it any sooner than that. I've tried getting a cage locally but no pet store carries any decent bird cages (they are actually WORSE than what she has now... or they have 1" bar spacing which I've read is bad for conures). So it has to be shipped to me. >.>
My question is... could I swap her old cage out and give it to my other bird? The quarantine is still in effect. Should I wait until the quarantine is over before I give the canary the cage?
So my question is...
is sterilizing the cage good enough despite the fact a quarantine is in place?
Please don't get too excited about how the cage I currently own is much better suited for the canary. I already know I am "pushing it" with such a crappy cage.
Edit: I am getting an HQ flight cage as a replacement for Delenn if anybody is curious/concerned.
