view or no view?

I have a large patio door with a great view to our backyard. There are various birds that come and go all day, mostly little black birds, sparrows, etc. I have been rearranging furniture and put my conures' flight cage near the patio door. 2/3 of the cage is against a wall, and 1/3 is against the patio door so they can see outside. I didn't want to put the whole thing against the window in case they get too hot or something. The cage would never been in direct sunlight, though.

So anyway, I moved the cage like this and Daisy immediately glued herself to the 1/3 of the cage that looks out the window. She was calling and calling non-stop. I couldn't tell if this was a friendly hello call or if she was just curious and excited. But it got on my nerves after a couple of hours so I rolled the cage back to the old spot where you can't look out the window as well. Now I feel bad that I've taken away a source of entertainment for her. She's been craning her neck towards the patio door ever since.

Advice? Should I move the cage back and let her scream and enjoy herself, or should I try to keep her quiet. You can hear her screaming from outside, and I'm sure the neighbors could if they were in their yards. I don't want there to be a constant noise going on.

I face this with Izzy and Lilly. They love watching the dog play in the backyard and shriek "Cmon Farley! BADDOG! FARLEY BAAD!" happily for hours. Did I mention loudly? lol

What I do is give them an hour or two of window fun, then put them back away from the window. They grew used to the routine and eventually started behaving themselves (now it's goodboy, versus badboy lol).

I agree with Xafsmom, a few hours here and there, but not constant window. That could definitely be a headache if they are there all day = )

Thanks! So compromise is the answer.

Wawa loves it when he can look outside. Pepper could care less! They both scream holy hell though if someone walks by too close!

I put Abbey's playstand next to the window so she can look if she wants. She is more interested in climbing the blinds though. lol

I put the shower perch on the front window so Rayne could look out. Rico doesn't care. She trills at the birds outside. They both yell if we take them out in their Pak O Birds. We took them out yesterday, and Rico was yelling "Hi, Rico!" for about an hour. It got a little nervy. I think that the compromise is a good thing. We have enough screaming around here without me intentionally making it worse, though!

My budgies' cage is by the front window and half shaded, but they have access to the house and there are boings by the back window where the bird feeder (and all the bird action) is. They love watching the birds out there and fly around trying to figure out how they can get out there and are chirping to them whenever they are here at the feeder.

It's not all day though, just when the outside birds are busiest, then it seems like all the birds, inside and out, go have a nap and it's quiet for a while til the next chirpfest.

These are just budgies, so I don't mind the commotion. It might be a lot different if I had a conure screaming! Ouch!

Compromise- or balance- is almost always the answer ;) Glad to hear you've found a source of entertainment for her!
