okay like seriously? he murdered an innocent animal for his frikin tv?!?!?!?!?!? DEATH ROW birds feel too! killing an animal should count as killing a human. animals have a sense of touch lonliness smell fear hope love taste sight hearing and whatever else! they may not all talk but they all FEEL this means even though they cant all speak for themselves it only means we should speak for them! birds are closest to humans if you ask me. monkeys go crazy after a few years but birds! they can live 50 to 100+ years! animals are people too!!!!!!!!!!!!! siko should get death row or life in jail and no more pets for his family! that is just wrong birds are sensitive to loud noise and was probably bothered by how loud the tv was. how would he feel if a drill was going through his head?

I think anyone that kills an animal for any reason other than to protect themselves, are guility of being a very sick individual that needs to suffer the results of their actions. We all have heard of the kids that start killing animals then it leads to more serious crimes on society.

If the courts are ever going to send a message to the world that it is not okay to destroy a living, breathing animal, then there will always be people like this man that thinks it is okay because the animal belonged to him. Animal cruelty should be a felony offense and should carry a prison term and the individual should never be allowed to own another animal. EVER

Jag's daughter, I knew I liked you.

Seriously though, be nice about the monkeys/apes. They are indeed are closest relative (chimps, in particular) and have been shown to possibly be just as intelligent.

Right now, the argument that seperates animal and human intelligence is the ability to hold a concept in your head without being presented the concept physically (so, "abstract thinking"). The question is, a CAG (for instance) can name an object, can ask for the object, can figure out how to use the object....but when desiring a specific object, can it understand exactly what it is and ask for it specifically? Or is this just a conditioned response?

When I say "cat", you get an image of a cat in your head. Okay, now make it a yellow cat. Now make it jump over a purple dog.

What they're trying to figure out is if birds can do that.

There is evidence that chimps can. A particuar chimp in...somewhere in Europe, I think....for some reason hated a few people working at the zoo that would come in in the afternoon. Well, all day this chimp would frequently collect rocks. One at a time. making a nice big pile.

Later, when the people he hated came in, he would hurl the rocks at them.

Hilarious yes, but it shows intent and premeditation. Evidence of abstract thinking, which has been previous attributed to only human beings.

What they need to find out is if birds can manage this as well. I think they can, but I don't think enough evidence has been shown for it to be widely accepted.

....back to the topic at hand. This guy is a creep and clearly a ticking time bomb. Like I said, at the very least this needs to be left on his record so future employers and others will know how dangerous he is.

And no one will ever ever sell him a bird again. I hope his wife leaves him. I can only assume it was HER bird. -.-

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office wants a Randolph man psychologically evaluated before it decides how to handle charges that he killed his family's African grey parrot with three BB-gun shots as it squawked while he watched a NASCAR race.

Dennis Zeglin, 67, was charged with animal cruelty in June after he shot "Mikey'' -- a family pet for 20 years -- because the bird annoyed his television watching on June 7. The charges might be reviewed by a county grand jury, but defense attorney Stephen Fletcher said the prosecutor's office has requested a psychiatric evaluation before it decides whether Zeglin might be appropriate for admission to the county's Pre-Trial Intervention program.

PTI is a probationary program for first-time offenders. If the defendant satisfies a period of probation and other conditions, criminal charges are dismissed and he or she does not have a criminal record.

Fletcher said that Zeglin was intoxicated when he turned a BB gun on the parrot. Zeglin's alarmed wife called police, and he was taken first to Morristown Memorial Hospital and later spent a few days at Summit Oaks.

''He's been in a program for alcohol abuse since this incident and he's working that program diligently,'' Fletcher said.
