Did Neko go to the vet when you first brought him home? ..
Honestly, you sound like you really trust both breeders the birds came from, and sound certain they haven't come in contact with an illness, so if i were in your shoes i would introduce them once the 30 days is over, and then get them both to the vet later, when you can.

No Emily Neko wasn't vet checked when he came home. However, his breeder is a certified germaphobe and Im not exaggerating. Her cleanliness is impeccable to any breeder I have ever known. She really would never let anything come in contact with her babies and I firmly believe that she would never ever let one go that could potentially be sick or could be carrying something.

If you trust the breeders, then put them together and be prepared that when you do take them in for check ups, that you'll probably be treating both.

I am in this same situation with Rio and Luna. Luna was visually checked out by a vet about a month ago(she said she looked fine and was a good weight, suggested I wait for the wellness check) and Rio was about a month before that and now it is about time where the quarantine is over. But i dont have the $250 (I could always try for the CareCredit thing, I guess) in hand at the moment (and probably wont for a while) for the wellness check. The only difference is that I didnt get my birds from breeders. I know Rio was well cared for and never has had any problems, but Luna didnt look like she was being taken very well care of(even though the vet said she was good visible condition and weight.)
Im not tryin to take over your thread, but I want to know if anyone would suggest different for me than for you. Can I safely introduce my birds to each other after the quarantine (or longer?) Or should I keep them apart still until I can get Luna to the vet(no matter how long it might take?) |

I personally want to appologize to EVERYONE that I asked to donate. I know it was a risk, but I felt it was a risk worth taking. Please, for those of you who don't donate for this reason, don't say "See, this is why I don't" because someone sent me money one time when I took in a very ill elderly GSD in last stages of life, and he WAS vetted (several times) and every DIME was used for his medical bills and end of life care. There are people out there that will do what they are saying. MissySue.. you need to get her to the vet. NOW. If you can't, turn her over to a rescue who CAN take proper care of her. She was sick when you got her, and I don't think she's magically cured. I'm very disappointed in you. VERY. I just took in a rescue and I have no money. However, her butt is going to the vet on Friday. My house payment will have to wait. It's THAT important!!! ![]() Sydney... if your guys are from breeders you trust, then take the chance if you must. It's different than getting in a rescue that you know is ill or suspect is ill. Although I agree with Xaf's mom... you're taking a chance at having them both ill. That said... people lie. All the time. If you didn't witness the breeder in person, don't believe that it was actually closed. Nuff said.

Sorry you are having such a tough time with money issues. I know how stressful it can be. It’s pretty rough.
I would risk it personally ONLY because you trust this breeder . He has been quarantined long enough, he came from a healthy breeder, he looks healthy. I think you will be just fine. Lots of people don’t quarantine at all. I do but some don’t. If you got him from a pet store that is a different situation. If it were me I would wait 30 days as suggested and then introduce.

I dont want you or anybody else to be upset with me. I appreciate all you and everybody else has done for me and Luna with all of my heart. Your advice has helped me out a lot. All of the money donated for Luna is still set aside, meant for her vetting. The $79 is still there, but the check is quoted at $240. I said I can try for the carecredit, but I dont know if i will get accepted seeing as I am 19 and dont have any other credit. Maybe since I have had the same job for more than a year now it will be better(idk how the credit stuff works.) And it all will get paid forward when I get myself back into the situation to financially. Like LovelySydney said, when it rains, it pours. It hasnt been the month since the first time Luna went to the vet yet. I thought since the vet advised I wait until the quarantine was over for the wellness check that was alright. Luna will get to the vet for her check when the months time is over. ...i guess i didnt think it through before i made the first post... sorry

This is a great reason to get a credit card. Put the vet bill on the card, and then pay it off within a month of the initial charge. You'll knock it off before they can finance charge you, avoid paying extra, and build your credit in the meantime. I still think you got ripped off. I'm in Northern VA (notoriously pricey area), took my b&g to an exotic vet that is a certified avian vet, and got a "visual" checkup, full blood work, gram stain, and required tests for the usual communicable avian diseases....only paid 300 and something for all that. Without the gram stain, it would have been 200 and something....blood work and tests are the pricey part. No visual visit should cost that much, seriously. |
