Only my grade 5, 6 & 7s use the term gay to mean lame or "un cool". And they get serious reprimands for it.

By the time they get to high school they are more aware of different world views and would never use it out of context or as an insult. I have some pretty cool kids hey! They are so anti "ism", and I am proud of them!

I'm with Jesse. I think that they look weird! I love the black feathers but the red on the face makes them look weird and puts me off for some reason!

Just MHO...

I'd be forever harping at it to close its mouth and get a haircut. I'm such a mother.

pfft but people now refer to people as 'disabled' or something; so the word has lost its context.. no one actually calls a 'disabled' person retarded... but in australia people use the word aaaaaaaaallll the time

People don't use it here, where I live, because the context remains insulting. They changed the term because it is not a "politically correct" word to use. It depends where you are from I suppose. I've never heard Abby use it? Regardless we try to stay politically correct on BB.

I've heard my boys say it along with a few other choice phrases. We had other lovely words back when I was young which I won't go into.

Just please find another adjective Jess. I know where you're coming from, but at the same time this is a multi country forum with a vast range of ages.

Ok off to grab my walking frame. You lot really know how to make a person feel old.

"Gay" is still used by a lot of my friends, and like MissV said, it's hard not to pick up language from people you are around. I never really use "gay" or "retarded" anymore, but back back in 5th, 6th, and 7th grade, I used it more often, but usually resorted to a more nuetral "dumb" or "weird." Now I really try not to use words like that.
