Huts for parrots.

i know a lot of people use huts for there birds and i was thinking of using a cardboard box to make 1 for kiwi. It would be safer since theres nothing to get stuck on and he could chew it as well. But wouldn't a hut get them into breeding conditions? Also what size should it be? Thank you so much.

Be care with what type of box you use. Some have glues that are bad for birds. Boxes are like nests. I am sure there is someone on here that has more info, I have never given Abbey a box. I did get her a tree hut but it is to small for her.

I have a birdie named Kiwi, too! She is a Nanday Conure. She has a Happy Hut that I got at Petco. She sleeps in there at night. I was worried about giving her one but I wanted her to be cozy. She has had her hut for a year now and it has not affected her personality at all. I think you should look in to one of those. A box may make your Kiwi's hormones go crazy. You can always try it out and take it out if it affects her behavior. Who knows, she might not even want to go in it. I would try it out. Especially, when it starts to get colder she might want a nice little box to sleep in.

I just noticed you had a Cockatiel (sorry for your loss) named Petrie and I used to have a Lovebird named Petrie! Apparently, we have the same tastes in names! :)

My conure has a happy hut but never uses it. He sleeps behind it so I guess its kind of like a blanket for him? I wouldnt give a cardboard box just because it could bring about the feeling to breed.
