Ever heard of Hybrid cages?
Cage Configurator
That's their custom configurator thing...okay, this is pretty daggom neat, and I know that I've read that a lot of more prominent people than I use their services... Basically, I'm on the hunt for a GOOD divided cage for Luca (sun) and Karis (dusky)....it's not easy to find a good sized one with proper spacing, and this looks like my best bet, they even use stainless steel. Now, I'm not a fan of acrylic cages for birds, so I'd get mine in all wire except the backing. Which is laminate unless you opt for the acrylic...I'm stuck on whether I should pay more for the acrylic or if the laminate would be okay. So, uh...does anyone have one of these or trust them at all? And what's the proper bar thickness for a coupla conures? I believe 3/4th is good spacing, but I stuck at decimals and I'd like to think that .092 is good but I failed algebra my first time around. Any help is, as usual, muchly appreciated! |

I'm not big on Cages By Design.
What double cages have you looked at?

Thanks for the feeback!
Well, after some irrational motherly obsessing, I've decided that I can't handle the idea of keep the conures under anything I've built (even with good ol' ikea instructions) so the tallness issue went away. I'm most likely opting for this, as I am in love with the design: Partition Bird Cage Dual Top for Tiels to Greys 42"x26" AE PC-4226D: WindyCityParrot.com, Bird Food, Parrot Food, Parrot Cages, Aviaries, Bird & Parrot Supplies,Bird Toy Oh....I too am all about bars. The only thing I liked was the acrylic on the back, just to protect the wall...but there's other methods of doing that too. That's why I wanted to ask...I just didn't know, and it's not like I'm looking to display my birds...I'm just saving space and giving THEM more room. |

I think that looks like a good cage - the only negative thing is that the bird in the shorter side won't get to sit as high as the other. One of my little caiques loves to go sit in one of the other birds cage because it is taller than hers and she can sit up higher. That seems like a high price but I am sure your guys will really like it. And if they are good friends, they can share the playgym and top of the cage.
I have 2 birds (a WB caique and a sun conure) who came to me in one large cage that they shared. However, the caique at times would get somewhat aggrressive and chase the sun conure around the cage. I got the sun conure his own cage and seperated them immediately for his safety. They are still really good friends and will both sit on me and preen each other. The sun conures cage is only 24 x 20 but when he is out, he goes into the amazons really huge tall cage and loves to sit on the hanging boings and hangout in there for hours. The amazon just goes up on top to hangout. Good luck with your choice - it always seems like a major decision for me when I am looking at different cages. Now I always watch the used cages that are for sale on craigslist. Sometimes you can come across a really good deal.

The height difference is actually one reason I really like it.
See, Luca is nice and all to Karis, but she reaches a point where she's all "Okay, get the kid out of my face." With that different height, Luca can just go up top to get away from Karis uneding adoration. ^^; And Karis is a teensy tiny little Dusky headed conure, so the difference inside space won't bother her. She rarely even goes to the other side of her cage half the time o.0 But when I unexpectedy got her, I had two cages and one was Luca's "baby" cage (it's about the average recommended size for a sun) so I knew I couldn't put karis in that one...Luca would through a FIT to see some other new bird hanging out in HER cage. so Karis ended up in the giant one. >_> Anyway...yeah, it's a good price compared to what else is out there though. I usually figure if I've found the one I especially want, then it's worth it. I look around for better deals on it, but as long as I'm not going 800 or over, I don't worry too much. After this is a corner cage for my bgm. Yay for space saving solutions that ALSO give more room to move about! |
