I probably was spending $30-40 a month at least. I seem to have two boys though that arent really found of toys and dont shred particularly quickly - so I guess I lucked out!! I say WAS spending because the toys I last bought them are still in great shape! Olivers going to need a new preening toy soon and neko might need a new shredder but thats about it!!

Hmm. I don't want to think about it!!!
Some months I spend nothing because I guess I have amassed so many that I don't NEED more but then other months (like this month!) I go a little crazy when stuff is on sale. I like baby toys and this month Target is having a sale and I just bought lots... How to start rumours!

Having one lovebird doesn't cost much. I just buy him millet, seed and maybe a new toy every month so all that together probably under 15 dollars. He doesn't break his toys..only takes the bells off of his toys so they are all in great shape.

I usually make my own. I spend about 300 a month on supplies, but all my breeders get 2-3 toys in their flights also, so that costs more.

I spend too much on toys...but it goes in spurts lately. A new cage set up (toys and perches) runs me about $150, but after that it's not as much. I try to order many when I order online to make up for the shipping, and I only order what I can't get or find local. I have found some good deals online. I need to start thinking about making my own. My hands aren't so good to be stringing/tying, but I may be able to enlist my kids to help with that!
I am going to be looking for a couple toys this weekend for the grey, but smaller toys with a bell I think. I don't have anything with a bell yet in her cage... and I'm trying to keep the toy population down in her cage since she doesn't know how to play with them yet and the cage isn't so big.

My girl must be toy starved based on the comments I've read... lets see... A few bags of baby toys from a second hand store at $2 per bag - say about $10... (lots of toys, several with interesting sounding buttons... So lots of rotation ability). Several cartons of popsicle sticks... say about $10... Grapevine cut from my grape vines... $0, pine branches from my pine tree, $0, a sleeping hut actually purchased from a pet store, $7, Sisel rope... $2 and a bell $3...
So I'm up to... $32... in three years... If you count the harness well it was $15 (from an actual pet store too) - so that's $47... There could have been a few other things over the past few years... So let's say $100 in four years... Or less than $2 per month... |

I am so glad I don't have chewers! Mine are all content with shredding newspaper ($0) demolishing native flowers ($0) and gnawing native branches (with and without foliage/ nuts/ flowers) that I change once a week/ fortnightly ($0)
Most of my stuff is natural... might try something a little more creative.

My girls aren't really toy fans. Bonnie is more of a destructor/explorer while Angel likes watching people. I aim to spend less than £5 on items since I'm a student, and there was a pet shop in my unitown that sold things wonderfully cheap. Downside? Their animals were kept in ATROCIOUS conditions (and I reported them)
I'm now looking at sites for rodent wooden items that could be used as perches etc. As Bonnie has three modes when it comes to things; sit on it, try to eat it, and if those two don't work, destroy it |
