Is there a database for finding an avian vet?

I don't think there are any near me, but if I bring home the mystery parrot I will want to get him checked out. I breifly worked for a vet near me that saw birds but I don't know if they are certified in birds. I also was referred to another vet when I asked my cat and dog vet about it, but again I don't know if they are certified.

So is there a place that I can look that up?

Just as I suspected. Amwell is the closest one, and it's an hour and a half away. Oh how I love living here.

Maybe you should post a thread "closest avian vet to xxxx (closest big city) Pennsylvania? I found that not all the vets who work with birds are in that data base. Word of mouth works best... maybe call a local pet shop.

Well the closest town to me is Stroudsburg. I see both the vet I worked at and the one recommended to me by my cat/dog vet on that last list. I guess I will try one of them out and see how it goes. The one I worked at is open 24 hours, so it is my best bet in an emergency since Amwell is so far away.

On a side note, my 'rents used to have a vacation home in Mt. Pocono. We used to go the Stroud Mall on rainy days :)

When I was hunting for an avian vet, I had searched far and wide and the closest vet was about an hour away according to those lists...but I dug a bit deeper, sought by word-of-mouth and found two vets at different offices who have successfully treated avians for decades, each. Go to avian stores, talk to breeders in the area, talk to parrot owners, and ask them for reputable vets that treat avians, and look for those that are recommended. You might get lucky like I did and not have to travel 1 hour+ to go to the vet. ^^
