Question Ever Get That Crazy Bird Person Feeling?

I had a neighbor just stop by, someone who knew I had birds but had never met them. He was actually just looking for my brother, and somehow came down to the basement suite thinking he still lived in that part of the house. I opened the sliding door and invited him in.

His eyes just went wide as several birds flew around. I saw him eying up the room... Suddenly I saw things as a stranger would see it Birds and cages everywhere, chaos, debris, mass destruction - a huge empty box just for the Greys (half shredded of course), the huge driftwood piece that is in front of the tv.
He said "wow, this is some project you've got!" (I thought, project? It's my life!) and one of my tiels flew to his shoulder. I picked up Ellie and she was in the mood for a headscratch. I explained that they only like to be pet on the head (well, only should be pet there) and that you pet against the feathers usually. He seemed so surprised by the number of birds in one room!

After he left (only stayed five minutes) I just looked at Ellie and said, "Do you think I have too many birdies? I love birdies! I think some people think I'm a crazy bird lady. " Then I turned around and Siena eyed me up and flew to my hand. I laughed. How can anyone think it's overwhelming in here? I guess I got used to the constant noise and movements... for someone to come in who is used to big horses as pets, and not birds, suddenly makes me realize how odd I really am.

Oh yeah, I feel that way every single time I have a repair man or someone who is in my house for the first time walk into my living room. 6 cages, 5 of them HUGE, squawking flapping birds, newspapers under and around every cage, god knows what on the floor...most days a mixture of poop and fruits and veggies, mini blinds torn up....yep, I feel like the crazy bird lady for sure most days!

Last night, my DIL's mother who is staying with my son and family across the alley came over and I was on the bed in my pj's and my conure was in his fave place.....my shirt! LOL she was like "huh....he goes down your shirt???"

^lmao! I know, there are sooo many things I never would have thought birds do, but they sure do... lol so hilarious I love hearing about non bird people's reactions to a home that is essentially catered around them

Ever get that crazy bird person

When I talk to my mom on the phone long distance, she gets a kick out of Dexter my CAG. He is always saying something silly or making a noise. But then she hears my U2 screaming from the parrot room and says "what in the world is that?!" "How can you stand living with all that noise?" I just tell her I love them and they are our family. Poop, thrown food, chewed door frames, stripped wallpaper and all!

I don't think crazy cat person is much better LOL. I took a quiz online once, "how many cats will eat you when you die?" The number was something like 36.

Back on topic, yes, the UPS man opened the door to drop in a package tonight. Good thing my birds are clipped! Two of them flew off their foraging table, freaked by the event. Teach him!!!

I know people think I am looney and the crazy bird man! I took all of mine outside the other weekend to clean the room before it got too cold to take them out there. Well of course I had 12 bird cages out behind my townhome. My neighbors had a look and then the people from out back came out on their decks and looked.

And never did I think that it would lead to me being asked to take in another bird. I am now being asked to take in a white front amazon.

My cousins call me "The Crazy Bird Woman". It is said with some affection as they have birds, too - but not inside as mine are. They add enormously to housework etc. But hey, so do regular people family. My birds are always pleased to see me when I come home and scramble from wherever they are to be with me. Visitors have to learn that I do not just open the door. I always have to check first where my birds are. I spent untold $$ this week getting beak-and-claw-proof security mesh screens so that I could have more windows open. I would not be without my birds (6 cockatiels and 7 budgies at the moment).

I feel that way sometimes when I have Neko at work because people who come in ask so many questions and kind of look at me like "why do you have a bird here?". Today my bf and I were going over what were doing for our christmas card (yes, early but I like to have an idea in mind, plus all my addresses correct) and I said "Should we have the birds in the photo?". Not that I dont want them there, but we dont have children and I dont want people to get the photo and be like "Why are there birds........". I am no ashamed and the dogs will be in it, but people just dont understand I guess when it comes to other animals, and I dont want them to focus just on the birdies.

So, yea - I feel like that!!
