My adventure to PetCo

Well today we went to PetCo after dinner. I took a few pictures of the birds. I talked to the manager about some of the birds not having enough toys and about the condition of there feathers.

They have had a PFC and a GCC for over a year. They are now 40% off. I asked her about them. She said that they received them already weaned. She said no one was able to bond with them since they didn't need to be hand fed. I don't really understand that but ok. I started talking to her about the condition of the PFC feathers and how his attitude is. She said he needs alot of work...
I told her about Abbey how what all we have gone through with her. She said she could take another 10% off the PFC... I am tempted. I know they will just replace him with another bird but I am a sucker. Since I am getting Abbey a new cage I will have an extra cage. Her old one is small but compared to what he has it is a mansion. I am not thinking of getting him today but maybe if he is still there in a month or two... Abbey might like to have a buddy.. I would not house them together an I would have to quarantine and after that see if they like each other.

Here are the pictures
2 are buddy the PFC
sengal with no toys
Pepper he is so cute
My hubby took the picture of the name tag. He thought it was funny

That caique looks awful. They can't bond with a weaned bird? I got all but Echo and Blossom weaned. I've bonded with them. I must be doing something wrong.
Don't they say all of the birds are tested for diseases? Do they include a vet exam for your new bird in the price? They should give you a bunch of food and toys if you do decide to get him. I hate those little cages with no toys.

Petco does not give any food, toys or a vet exam.. I think you get a 15 day return policy. That is it.

I don't understand the bonding thing either. Most people do not hand feed there birds. They buy them after.. I think she was bsing with me

Did you see the PFC tail.. That is what made me want to take him home

Awww...what poor birds! At least the Petco and Petsmart where I live gives them toys! Of course, they nevber have anything bigger than a Quaker, which I guess is a good thing.

They almost always do here too. She said they are having more shipped, they can't take toys off the floor for them. I couldn't work there. I would always be giving them new toys.

Petco does vet the birds in a general sense. Each bird is given a physical exam and basic disease testing for zoonotic diseases.

As for the weaned/bonding thing, she means that they received the birds weaned, so the staff didn't get to hand-feed them, thus establishing a feeding bond. Since the babies weren't dependant upon food from a hand-feeder, they weren't able to have the same 'bond aka dependancy'.

That's what you get from people who don't know squat about birds but goodie goodie they're certified PIJAC ~specialists~.

My adventure at Petco

I went to Petco today too. None of the birds had toys, This was disappointing as I had been there a month earlier and everyone had one of those plastic $1.99 chains in their cage at least. I asked for the manager and discussed this with him. He said he was new and did not know if they could give them toys. I assured him they could because I had worked for another Petco store prior. And they don't have to order them. They can take them off the shelf and take it out of their inventory. We always did! So I helped the guy pick out some toys, not just those boring plastic chains. I helped him put them in the cages. He stated he knows he is going to get in trouble for this. All cages were clean, food and water appeared fresh and birds were in good feather except for an alexandriane whose tail feathers were all ratted up. I will be checking back.

Good on you. I got so angry about a macaw with no toys. She said 'oh but she's out of the cage most of the day' She must have HAD a toy, bcoz there was a bare chain hanging in there. I waited til she picked a toy off the shelf. Next time i went in, no toys...

I hate some people.

I know, they know what to say to get us to stop asking questions. I will be more through next time. So what do you guys think of the PFC? I think the GCC neighbor is the one eating his tail but I feel bad for him. They had two but a mustached bite its toe off. She said it is in the back.. I am not sure what they will do with him

I think you should take the pfc home. I know that's feeding into the problem by giving them more money for these birds, but he's so cute. He needs to come live with you and be allowed to run around and play and be spoiled. And half off isn't a bad deal either, it's like Marley the clearance puppy.
