Exclamation My new signature, reminder for bird owners

My new signature I just made to remind myself and others to never use Teflon or PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) which is used in non stick coating for pots and pans and other household products. This killed my 7 birds about 2 months ago and I had posted on the in memory section about that event back then. I would like to start perhaps a ptfe awareness day for birds, What do you all think about that and what do you think of my signature?

I like it, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. We are saving up for the pampered chef series of pots and pans because they are stainless steal and the only stainless steal my husband likes to use. So we are essentially bird proofing our home before we get our birds.

Yes that Is what I have done, there is nothing in my place that can harm my birds now, of course before I knew what foods to NOT give them.

Onions
Avacado
Chocolate
Alchohol

Just to name a few that are bad news for birds. So I know that alot of people know about those, but not everyone knows about ptfe. What is sad for me is that the pot I was using was older but I could not tell if it was teflon, it was a hand me down, and it overheated while I was boiling water, It boiled out and then began to emit fumes, by that time it was too late for my birds.

Overheating is what caused it of course but i now realize there are even more things that have the ptfe coating on them.

I finally gave up my last teflon pan last week. And I was so relieved to have it out of my house, it was just an accident waiting to happen. Now I just need a new sandwich maker. Anyone know about a good non-teflon one?

I like your signature very much. I am still in the process of finding good teflon-free pans. I posted a couple pesky threads asking for advice in types of good pans to use. I hope I am not bothering anyone by asking a lot of questions. I want to feel confident that I am doing everything right for my fids. I am so sorry for your loss. That would be heartbreaking.

The pans me and my bf use are the Kitchen Aid stainless steel ones and we also use cast iron. Anything cast iron or stainless steel you should be good, if your not sure call the manufacture and ask about them. We called Kitchen Aid before we bought there pans to be sure and they told us the only ones without the PTFE or teflon are there stainless steel line.

I was wondering if ceramic hair straighteners were safe to use in the same house as a bird? Do they have teflon or does it depend?

Im SOOO sorry you lost all those birds, how horrible. I must have missed that post. I think this awareness needs to get out there so people don’t make the same mistake so thanks for the post and your signature, it will help.

None of my pots are Teflon. I do have a question. I read somewhere that popcorn bags carry Teflon, is this true?

Not to get you to think back but did it kill them instantly? Sorry for asking that question. The only reason I ask this is because if there is a toxin that is in the house and you open the windows or get them out of that area, is there enough time to do so.

My husband would like to know how long the pan was dry and emitting fumes... if you don't mind my asking? He thinks if you catch it right away in a well ventilated room, it won't kill anything.
