I know what you’re talking about. It's hard to describe. Kind of like a deep grrrrr, a gurgling sound? Another way I can describe is like when you get a radio station with static, is that kind of what you mean?

Chiquita makes that sound ALL the time.

Ash does that while playing and being silly, but make sure he isn't doing it constantly cause that may indicate a respiratory problem.

I think it's hard to determine exactly what a sound they make is. It could be a piece of machinery heard outside, or perhaps from an appliance inside. Or from a man's voice. It can even be an incorrect mimic, which needs a little more working on!

Jezebel makes a variety of sounds all day long :-), and every day she has new ones. I'm just happy that she's happy and healthy enough to be so vocal! (of course it would be nice if she could arrange some of those syllables into real words, lol).

Are the sounds always imitation? I mean I guess they would be, but I wonder if any of the sounds are instinct, such as flock calling.

That was my immediate thought too.

Must admit that if any of my birds suddenly started making a noise as described here and did so all day I'd be STRAIGHT to the vet with them.

Aspergillosis can cause just the type of sound you're describing if the nodules are low enough in the respiratory tract and as we all know this is a condition not to be taken lightly.

Jess, is this sound apparent all the time? Like whenever the bird makes any sound at all? Even when he's just breathing?

If there is a respiratory problem, I'd say you wouldn't only hear it when he makes certain noises, but all the time.
