Unhappy Blue Quakers prone to more illnesses than green?

Hi,
I picked up my new little Baby Blue Quaker Sunday. Took it to the vet for wellness check. Vet said Blue Quakers are prone to be more sick than green quakers. He said my little girl had a muffled heart and lung sound, was weak for its size and was in general, not in good health. I had already fallen in love with her, but ended up returning her to the owner.

Anyone else experienced this?

Thanks.

I do not know much about Quakers, but just wanted to let you know how sorry I am.

It must have been really hard to return her.

Thank you. It was hard to return her. I felt like I was abandoning her. The lady who sold her to me is going to keep her as a pet. She is such a caring, loving breeder. I know Little Blue will love being with her, but I still feel like I abandoned her.

Oh poor baby, she was already sick?? Did you ask the breeder about this? Did you get your money back? Im kind of surprised she wasn't aware that the little one was underweight - usually they are weighed at different intervals as they age. At least you know she will stay in the home with the breeder and not be passed around. I hope you are able to bring home another baby soon, caique or quaker!!

I find that is a myth i own a blue quaker Aqua his 1 years old and any thing wrong with him his never been sick. He weighs around 110grams colour has nothing to do with health or personality. I think its in the genetics of the parents.

Was it something that couldn't be treated easily? I am the type of person that would accommodate most health issues. But I am not a vet/doctor so I don't know how serious the diagnosis was.

Sorry it didn't work out for you.

Blue quakers prone to more illnesses

Blue mutations tend to have a shorter life span. See my post in this chat under Quaker or caique.

Yes, it seems that mutations have a weaker immune system.

My guess would be that there is often a lot of inbreeding involved in the mutations in order to propogate the population of that color. As with any animal, a reputable and responsible breeder will breed with health and the betterment of the species as the primary concern, but many others will breed for color using tight line breeding repeatedly. So my guess would be that color CAN be a factor in overall health, but does not always play a part.

Thats very interesting I would never have thought that color would make a difference as far as health goes.
