Vet Visit today.

Some of you were interested in what the vet said about my new budgie so i thought i'd let you all know.

He IS older. At least one year, if not more. Weird, because he is very friendly... So for me to get an aviary bred, older bird that is so nice to me is strange! He's recently sprung a few pin feathers on his head too, which was a dead giveaway to me that he was older than they said.

He has follicle damage to his flight feathers, possibly due to them banging against the sides of the cage. Only cure to this is good diet and baths, apparently.

He also has ulcers on his feet, which explains the funny walking. His 'waddle' has become less prominent since i've had him so i'm guessing the combination of better diet (i've been offering fresh foods, grasses and pellets) and newspaper on the cage (changed every 2 days) has helped them. I asked if i should salt bath them and he said no, just give them time to callous up, and keep his environment clean.

Gram stain came back ok, no worms etc and i'm waiting on the results of the chlamydia test, it's a four hour wait! Crop flush clear as well.

He's slightly underweight so i gotta fatten him up! He tried some Harrison's pellets at the vets and LOVED them, which is awesome since i've been trying to get him to eat anything except seeds. So now he'll be on that food. The first ingredient is millet, so of course he'll love them.. lol.

I'm very happy with today's results, and only $140 to find out!!

The vet was really pleased that he'd gone to a good home, and was glad that i'd gotten him (probly bcoz he knows i'll make him a lot of money..) I also picked up a cool new foraging toy for the Nanday (she LOVES them) for $30 as well. it's got drawers and little holes to get food out of...

Ok, gotta go to work now, but i think it was greycloud or threex that said he looked older, you were right!!
