OMG mice

So the parrots are in my Bedroom. No biggie. But, I keep their food on the floor in plastic containers-from the icecream pail the nuts and seeds were in, to the big container of pellets.

3 mice dead so far, I've seen another today... I'm infested... GAH! At least they haven't gotten into the pellets yet. Or up into the cages. I'm about to go out and get MORE mouse traps. Hopefully catch a few more. Dunno what to do to get them out of the house other than catch them en masse. The nuts and seeds have been dumped out now too.

Soooo, clean up day for me. I think I'm going to build the birds a tile floor to sit ontop of my carpet. This is horrid

*siiigh*

Might I suggest humane traps that don't actually kill the mice?

....I have to throw it out there.

Rats and mice: probably THE most misunderstood animals out there. >_>

Oh.. I buy the humane traps.. although, humane isn't very nice since they trap the mice in the sticky stuff... so they can starve to death instead >.>

I think its more humane for a quick death than a long, lingering one in a trash can somewhere.

Oh boy mice sure seem to be a problem lately. We've had them as have my cousin!! Must be the season (at least here in Michigan) where they are trying to find a home before winter.

There is almost nothing worse then a mouse infestation.
Where I used to live, my land lady was very dirty, leaving food and stuff out all the time. She is also a horder so she had stuff, every where with only little walk ways between it. So without fail every winter the mice would find their way into the old house and they don't just stay where all the food is, not with birds flinging seeds, fruits and nuts around all day.
It got so bad at one point that I would go into the bird room and watch the mice running out of the bottoms of my bird cages! It was absolutely revolting, and the mice ruined sooooo much food and toys and well just everything they came into contact with.

Thankfully none of my birds got sick. I wasn't able to put traps or poinsons down because of my cats and dogs, because if it was there, they for sure would have gotten into it.

I can't tell you how happy I was once we got out of there.

I used the cat method. Even though mine are indoor and front declawed...they nab those suckers!

I had a neighbor actually borrow my cat for a couple days to take care of her vermin issues.

If you use a humane trap with peanut butter bait, don't just release them out the front door...they will just come back in. Drive them away a bit and let them go.

I HATE wild rats and mice. Look in my sig- I OWN rats and love them. I have kept mice on and off for 14 years too. I am not biased, I do not wantonly hate the wildies- I have good reason. Wild mice killed my budgie, ate my food and my birds' food, chewed my stuff, pood and peed IN MY BED, pooped in my kitchen cupboard and impregnated my pet mouse! Trapping and releasing doesn't work- they can travel MILES to get back home! They did experiments to prove this! The only way is to kill them or to make sure they can't get in your house (and believe me, they'll find a way). Now I have as much compassion for life as anyone else does, but I will NOT have vermin doing the things listed above, just cause I don't have the heart to protect my pets and my family from them. Any I found dying I would put in a basket with cotton balls to lie on and leave them in a quiet place to die peacefully. It breaks my heart to see them suffer it really does, but finding a budgie I hand raised, dead, was even worse.

Also, I am pretty sure the smell of rats keeps mice away- why not get a rat or two, they are the perfect pet :)

ohhh, do they seriously? I've contemplated getting a rat

Or a pet cat again...

Or a really BIG snake to let loose in the house.
