Question Causes for Sneezing ?

Last night around 1am I woke up to the sound of Trooper sneezing. She sneezed at least 20 times over the course of 20 minutes or so. Freaked me right out, and because I live with my parents, I didn't want to turn on the lights and risk waking all the birds up. I went and asked her if she was okay though and then went back to bed...She seems fine this morning, haven't heard a sneeze and she's playing/eating/talking/preening as usual. Is her cage too dusty ? I mean she doesn't like to bathe and I don't force it... She has had only a couple drenching baths since I got her. Otherwise I am a bit concerned, to be honest. Anyone else experienced this ?

I just gave her a huuuge misting with warm water (like two bottles full!) and she loved it. I think she's warming up to the idea of bathing ... Hopefully she is less dusty (cage included) now.

My conure will do this...once every evening she will sneeze about 8-10 times in a row and then just sit around being her usual self... I think sometimes stuff gets in there and they have to clear it...

I think when it becomes accompanied by other sick symptoms like wheezing or nare discharge then it becomes something to worry about...

I would just keep an eye on the bird.... the little one should be okay :)

It was probably just a mild obstruction, or irritation. People sneeze for various reasons, for those I mentioned or if they are ill. If she stopped I doubt it would be something to worry about.

Neko sneezes all the time and I think its because we live in an old house with an old furnace and our air just isn't as clean as it could be. Ive asked my vet about it (I too was concerned) and he said that its normal, its just like people sneezing when our airways get irritated. Obviously Neko isn't sneezing 12 hours a day or we would have problems!!

Thanks everyone. haha she's not little. She's like the size of a cat. hehehe
I don't think she has been wheezing.. I should be monitoring more closely though, to make sure she is not exhibiting other signs of illness.

Maybe my basement suite is too dusty for her ? There are cobwebs in here I have been meaning to take care of and most of my other birds are dusty as well (tiels and greys that like to flap and fly!) ... She did this again last night, in the middle of the night I woke up to the sounds of her sneezing. It lasted a few minutes and nearly sent me into a panic attack because I worry about her so much. She is otherwise fine,no wheezing or discharge, and the misting seemed to help her for a few days... I am going to clean up a lot today (dust) and see if that makes a difference.

Sounds like you need a good quality air filter, in any case.

I'm going to make the investment soon. I just have a pionus, but I think the dust she generates might be contributing to some allergies I'm having. I could see how multiple dusty birds is going to cause a lot of "stuff" in the air that might be irritating her.
