The Nut in the Neighborhood

So, I am older, live alone with my fids. I live on a court or cul-de-sac. Next door are twin girls 6 years old and their brother, 4. And, because it is the court, kids from down the street and behind us all come to play in the court.

Well, sometimes in the summer I like to take one of my birds out on the front porch to sit with me and enjoy the evening. So, the kids see me with my B&G or my U2 and they are all WOW.

So I decided to make something of it. I told them they had to do research on the type of bird I would bring out for them. And, they did! And I would ask them questions and it was like...really fun!..they would sit on the ground in front of me and we would talk about the bird I had out for them.

Their parents are all so for this as well. They tell me it is a great learning experience and that the kids just get such a kick out of it.

Now, although they may still think I am the nut, they think I am a cool one!

Thats awesome! I love that you do that, especially because it gets the kids involved and they are learning at the same time - how cool. Also awesome that the parents are on board, that always helps. Great idea!!

Great idea! You may inspire some of the children to become future responsible parrot owners themselves.

I want to teach kids about birds too! more than a few kids this summer were really amazed by my feather earrings and the photos of my birds that I had at the local market. I am sure many would make great future bird owners (er, bird slaves.. who owns who is kind of debatable at times ) Just yesterday I was telling a five year old boy about how my birds are like 'kids with beaks' and they will get into trouble, chew cords, furniture, etc. The kid looked shocked! haha
