What do your fids watch?

When we first got Cody, our severe, we would put animal planet on for him, but then one day my husband thought that Cody might like a little kid show, so he put on Dora the Explorer. Cody loved it and was singing along and whistling. So now we put on either PBS or Nick Jr. for him. I can't say that it has really increased his vocabulary, but he definitely does interact with the shows, especially if he can't see any of his humans. The really crazy thing is that my teenage daughters will sit with Cody and watch these baby shows and talk to Cody about the show the same way they would if he was a human baby (okay... I admit I do it too....))

Can birds see the the TV the way we can? I know dogs see a blurred picture with lines because, I believe, their brains have different timing than ours. I watched a documentary on it. I wonder if birds see a clear picture like we do of if they just react to the sound? Does anyone know?

Dogs can see the TV. It is blurred and colors are in shading of greys, whites and greens. I think birds see TV fine especially the colors. My birds and my adult kids love PBS and children's shows! They both never grow up!

I put cartoons on for my birds usually... old bugs bunny and tweety shows and the like. The greys haven't picked up on it as much as I thought they would... but maybe that is because I usually keep the volume fairly low.

I don't let them watch a lot of TV.. Sometimes it winds them up.. especially animal planet. They do have a couple of favorite Disney movies... The Little Mermaid and Nemo.. I think it's the bright colors.. They also like the Wizard of Oz. Guess it's musicals with the bright colors they like.
Newt sings to Merry old Land of Oz.. It's hysterical! He likes the " Ha ha ha.. ho ho ho... " He tries to mimic it! LOL

Birds see in a way higher spectrum of light (colors) than we do, so no, they don't see tv the way we do. The prevailing belief seems to be that they may actually be able to see the individual pixels that make up the images we see (if you need further explanation, pull a picture up on your computer and zoom in to over 200% or so). If this is true, then it may be a bit much for them to watch tv all day.

Still, the noise is good stuff, so having it on if they can't see it is great...or if they can see it, I'd recommend timing it to only play a few hours a day or so.

edit: I swear to god, Etienne was loving Gossip Girl.

So like his mommy. XD

I put Nick Jr on for Mango sometimes. He is in the bedroom and when I go in the living room and leave him alone I will turn it on so he has noise.

One of the reasons we quit putting animal planet on for Cody was that every time they had a show about snakes he would start pulling his head back and striking at us like a cobra. Then he would laugh and laugh, but whoever was on the receiving end didn't think it was that funny.

I wonder if yours like the Wizard of Oz so much because the munchkins have those high pitched little voices too... That is cute that Newt sings along!
