Bird Safe Air Fresheners?

Is there such a thing? My neighbors smoke.. and some gets in my apartment still. I just want something to neutralize the smell... am I just SOL on this one?

Buy some cinnamon sticks and simmer in warm water on the stove. After you turn it off it still emits a wonderful aroma!

Air fresheners are a no-no around birds (not good fur us either). The air purifier is a good idea (as is the boiling of cinnamon).

I do what greycloud and Zoe's Mom suggested - simmering cinnamon, oranges, etc. on the stove. It creates a lovely scent and you dont have to worry about harming your birds.

Does anyone use the tiny crockpots to simmer spices or orange? I was thinking about trying one but I am not sure if its safe to leave it on all the time and how often to change the oranges.

If it is smoke then I would seriously consider an air filtration system of some type (not the negative ion ones).

Frankly I think the fuss about air freshners is overstated... Any problems that I've read about seem to be linked with the burning of essential oils from my reading - like letting the water bath dry up in a potporri and then the essential oil starts to smoke. All other sites and information seem to simply parrot other sites and information (repeating a few well-known stories many times).

I know lots of people with parrots that use air freshners with no ill effects (respiratory wise)... And are surprised when I tell them of this concern.

This being said - I would avoid strong odors anyway... If only to avoid any possible allergic reaction.
