I can't tell you why. Perhaps you can get him over it by holding him and running the water very little and pretend to be REALLY thrilled about the water. Or have a fave person hold him and give him treats while someone else runs a bit of water. Keep doing that until he starts to associate running water with positive things. Or you can just eat off paper plates.

I always praise my birds, especially Trooper when they do have a bath. I am like, "goood, oooh thats nice water isn't it? gonna have a bath, good girl!" etc etc. She was probably sprayed with water when she didn't want to be... Because she was extremely fearful of the mister when I first tried it on her. Eventually she warmed up to the idea, now I wait until it looks like she needs/wants a bath (hanging out at her water dish) and I put really warm water in there and gently coax her into it. When she was still scared, I would stop spraying when she ran away. I listen to her body language and what she's trying to tell me.

Are you sure it is terrified and not antagonised or excited? Most birds will call/scream and make a fuss when water is running.

Neko is kind of the same way and I know he was definitely NOT abused by water. When I do the dishes he makes a fuss and will sit behind my head on my hood (if Im wearing a hoodie) instead of on my shoulder, almost like hes hiding. He wont go near the sink or the running water. He does however love to bath in his TOO SMALL water dish but if that makes him happy I'll deal, lol. I seem to have birds who like making bath time difficult!

Ziggy my GC does this too but I think he is actually liking the water. He chirps, screeches and sings to it. I took him in the shower for the first time and he made such a racket but he was having a ball. Maybe boomer likes to sing with the sound. Does he hide and act fearful or is he just vocal?

She calls when the toilet flushes as well. At first, doing dishes, she would hide behind my head - but (quite a few months later) now she's attached to the front of my shirt telling me what spots I've missed when washing... My view, give the bird time and encouragement... |

Luca screams and freaks when the water runs....she wants inside.
But she hates being misted or sprayed. Just wants under the actual faucet--though her favorite is the shower. What's his body language like? How does he "panic"? He may indeed be acting favorably and it's just confusing because birds are insane. |

My Green Cheek raises holy hades when he hears water running, screech! Squawk, as loud as he can be! I think it's fairly normal. He has been like this since day1. The minute you shut the water off, he shuts up.
My new Crimson will dive into any water she can find when she hears water running, now that's pretty weird too LOL.

That does kind of sum it up very well, doesn't it
![]() It may be that he's terrified of water, but it doesn't necessarily mean he was abused. Sometimes it's hard to tell what's going on in a bird's head; let's hope he's just "excited" and not "terrified". But being able to tolerate the sound of running water is the type of thing that's worth working on. There's a fine line between systematic desensitization and flooding. The key is to let him tell you when too much is too much. Let us know how progress is going!
