Talking Finally he said his first words and his flights are molting out!!!

OMG I am so excited, Rocky finally said his first words, kiss and love you!!!! I have been really busy and have not had much time to post, but I finally have a couple free hours to do what I want, so I had to share!! Since he is so stubborn the only trick I can get him to do is kiss on command! An especially at night I'll say kiss before we put him to bed and he said it the other night!!! I always tell him love you also and he can say that as well!!! I was a tiny bit upset that he might not ever say anything, since most other peoples suns on here can say a few words. If he never says anything again though I will still love him!! Also wanted to share Rocky's flights are FINALLY molting, he has only done two on each side so far, but I can already tell a difference, today he was actually able to make it from his cage to me, which is only about a foot and a half, but it is much improved than crashing to the ground like before! Most know that I was concerned about when his flights would grow out since his breeder butchered them!! I can't wait until they grow out, he will be even more gorgeous than before!! We are still undecided as to when they grow out to we clip all the way or do a managed flight clip. Since we live in an apartment my biggest concern is the kitchen area when we are cooking, but I guess he could go into his cage...I don't know, I have gone back and forth on this for awhile! We will see I know he still has a long way to go, his breeder cut almost every single feather on his poor wings!! Thanks for listening guys, I feel like a new mom whos baby just started crawling or walking for the first time!! Parrots are the best!!

That's great!! It took Rayne many, many weeks to repeat 'love you' even though she has picked up words pretty easily. Conures really are strong fliers.. I'm not so sure that a managed clip will do much more than slow the 'break-neck' speeds. I thought I was going to do a managed clip with Rico and Rayne...but I ended up just leaving them flighted. When my wife is cooking or we're doing something where they'd be in danger, we just put them back in their 'bedrooms'. Of course... it's all up to you... but I just thought I'd share what I ended up doing and why.

I bet you're SO excited that he's talking to you! I know I still get all excited everytime someone says a new word or phrase!

This is very good to hear! It sure has been a long wait for the flights to moult... But I'm certain he will enjoy being able to move about with a bit more freedom...

Congrats! I know exactly how you feel. I'm still waiting for Jezebel to speak a clear word although she's starting to try! You must be so excited! I'd be on the phone telling everyone! :-)

Those first words are so great. Chiquita just said her first words a few days ago. "I Love You Way." Each time you hear them it will be more and more clear. Keep repeating it and it will sound really clear.
