Which bird(s) would you choose for home office setting?

I work from home frequently and would enjoy keeping a bird or a pair as company in my office. My Sun Conure is far too loud and even the Cockatiels get loud occassionally. I'm looking for a quiet bird that isn't demanding of my attention like the conure. I also need a bird that won't overwhelm when I'm on a conference call though I do use a headset.

If you were selecting a bird or pair of birds to be caged in your home office, which would you choose?

My breeder has suggested the following:

Male Mulga Parakeet (many colored)
Lineolated Parakeet
Lady Gouldian Finches
Splendid Grass Parakeet (red chested)

Thanks in advance!

Ooh, I would get finches. I love those little chattering cuties, I find they're chattering very relaxing. And they're low maintenance, but would be so nice to have aroundþ

To be honest, if it's just going to be caged in your office all day and needs to be quiet and undemanding I'd buy an ornament.

Not much fun for the bird being in a cage all day with little attention from it's owner.

Pippy, I too agree. Birds are social and need attention - even my budgie gets pretty vocal and demands out of cage time. I think maybe having a bird in your office environment might not be the best idea.

That being said, all those suggestions are great - I agree with all of them. Youre going to want a bird that doesnt scream when you are trying to make a conference call!! Sun conures, lovebirds and cockatiels are out as well as the other big birds, most birds actually.

I would suggest fish. I had fish at my desk in my office. They are quite and don't demand any attention. Feed them an change there water and they are fine.

Im not trying to take over the thread but sailorkelly brought up fish and it made me think of our office. We have a gorgeous long fish tank and I LOVE it being where I work. Its peaceful & when you need to just take a break its nice and calming to look at. Hopefully it can be saltwater soon, Id love to add a clownfish!!

I do love fish! I used to have a 55 gallon tank actually. Great therapy. I currently have an Avian Adventures cage in my office because I rotate bringing the other birds up for play time. They prefer to perch on my desk however and my cage is rarely used.

Regarding the socializing for the birds, I actually would be holding them off and on throughout the day, unless they are unaccepting of course. I love letting them run around my desk, but as mentioned, if the conure gets excited, he's sure to let me know which can be inconvenient at times. If it weren't for that, he'd be sleeping in my shirt half the day! I already have a perch for my desk with an acrylic base so the birds can be right beside me. It's not that I don't enjoy my clients, but I have to say, sometimes I enjoy my birds more!

Perch - foraging tree for desk
