The Daylight Savings Effect?

Now that we turned the clocks back and the daylight is diminishing what are the effects on our birds?

I think it put Lola, my B&G Macaw into a mating mood again. She is regurgitating for me as soon as I let her out and is doing all the 'mating' behaviour she did in the Spring.

It shouldnt effect them at all if they are put to bed when the sun goes down. You just need to readjust your bedtime for them so they are still recieving the same amount of daylight. Thats why I use timers in my bird room I just adjusted the time

It gets dark at 5:00 here now. Its such a bummer because the kids want to play outside and I don't like them out after dark. I just close the blinds and hopefully Ziggy won't notice the difference. Its hard to shut things down at 5 pm for bedtime LOL.

The time doesn't seem to bother the birds we have in the house. They usually know when we make our rounds at night and the lights go out, it is bed time (except for our little goffin, Casper), he likes to carry on for about another 10 minutes or so ringing his bell. The others out in our aviary are on a schedule. 12 hours of light and 12 hours of lights out. Seems to be working for us....

My birds are doing fine although as soon as it gets dark (which is roughly 6ish now, yuck!) Oliver and Emi want to go to bed ASAP. They are so accustomed to 9pm bed time. Im trying to leave the lights on and I think they are kind of getting it, but not really. I went up there and they were in full on sleep mode, poor little guys. Neko on the other hand has become a little handful, a tyrant really. He went on a screaming fit tonight that nearly made my ears bleed. He needs a nap!!!!

The time change just means I get up at 4:00am instead of 5:00am - so it bothers me more than my girl...

The day after we turned the clock backs, Luca was demanding to be in bed at 5:30! I was like "Ah! Just wait an hour!"

She's gotten used to it now, but that first day of falling back is always such a pain!

I love being able to sleep in that extra hour. Even though I am looking at the clock and it says 5:30, my body still thinks it's 6:30. I sure get sleepy around nine instead of ten LOL! I hate it in spring when we loose that hour!

Our birds go to bed around 9:30 - 10:00 and don't get up until 9:30 - 10:00, so not a biggie around here for the birds to adjust. They stay up til I go to bed and get up with Dad (who is home on disability and sick).
