a little worried about my Meyers

I'm worried about my Meyers. She has been whistling some through her nose? I don't think it's every breath, and it doesn't seem involuntary, but not sure I would know.

For the past couple of days she's gotten kind of wheezy sounding and excited when she sees me. But even after she settles down you can kind of hear a whistle sometimes when she breathes.

She's not mouth breathing, and she's eating pooping and drinking normally. She was head first in the veggie bowl tonight.

I don't know what to think. Is this a new vocalization or is something up with her?

I don't hear it when she tucks her head back to sleep, so it's not a constant thing.

wheezy and whistling noises: sounds like a respiratory infection that requires a vet visit.

Now I'm worried more. Dang. Anything I can do for her tonight? I'll call the vet in the morning. Do birds benefit from steam?

It's more important to just keep her warm and quiet. Call the vet first thing in the AM. Don't be put off by an appointment a couple days away. Insist she be seen that day!

For some reason, I'm thinking of a post that someone made about a type of bird that does this normally. It *may* be the meyers... I wish I could remember who posted it and what type of bird it was!! I hope your little one is OK...

Thanks. We are at the vet and she is very ill. We are going to treat empirically with anti biotics. The university is too busy to take her. I wish I'd called last night. I was worried I wouldn't get an avian vet. She got much worse late last night. Neither of us slept much.

This morning she ate and pooped. But she did not present well by the tine we got here. She's tail bobbibg and puffed.

Rule outs center around exposure to something. No painting or fumes of any kind. We are concerned about the fact that my daughter just got over swine.

Luckily the university is willing to consult with this vet here. They don't think it likely its pssiticosis which is a worry of mine given the other birds.

Wish me luck. Thoughts and ideas welcomed. We ruled out obstruction because it was not acute onset

I feel so bad for my little baby. Can't lose her!!!!!

Oh no!! I'll send you all the positive thoughts I can... for you and your entire flock. Hopefully they will get to the bottom of it quickly and she'll make a quick recovery!

I'm so glad you made it to the vets. I hope she recovers quickly. You know, last night on the news they had proof that a cat and 2 ferrets, who were exposed to their sick owners had positive H1N1. These were from separate homes. It scares me that our animals could catch this. Please keep us posted.

Thanks. Now I have antibiotics. I guess I'm going to have towel her. Better to treat at home where she is less agitated. If its a swine infection it may not help but hoping its something treatable! Also got an antifungal too just in case.

They think its been identified in a turkey.

She definitely breathes better when not agitated. She was stressed and looked very bad at the vets. I was able to calm her down with scritches and her breathing improved. Poor baby. Only symptom is the breathing. No drainage apparent at all.

I'm going to hassle her with meds then tuck her into a sleep cage with a blanket.

Thanks for reading all. So hard when they are sick. I pray she doesn't get worse tonight like she did last night. :(
