Most parrots can have the vet wrap torn off in a heck of a hurry. I wouldn't chance it.

The main drawback to vet wrap is that over time, it becomes a sticky yucky mess. However natural "self-cut" wood can harbor a lot of bacteria and parasites if not dried properly first. I'm not even sure if Walnut is a safe wood - there are so many lists giving conflicting information.

I'd say cut your losses and make a PVC gym. If you cut yourself a lot of spare pieces and buy spare connectors you have a lot of options to switch up whenever you feel like it. Plus you can always add your own real branches to it whenever you feel like it (as I did). Plus, vet wrap's a lot easier to replace when it's on one piece of PVC, rather than having to unwrap an entire tree branch. Just my two cents.

... but natural branches come with BARK which is the bestest chew toy ever. The bird is allowed to strip that off.
Which makes a mess on the floor, but hey, the bird is happy. :D

Oh, guaze would be horrible. It pulls apart into tiny strings. Choking hazard and can wrap around tiny toes. Some barks are fine to leave on, but this is where most molds, bacteria and little critters congregate. I would use only wood from safe trees on the list. Remove bark, wash with a watered down bleach solution, rinse well and bake in the oven at low to dry. Bottlebrush is great with bark left on. Also instead of vet wrap, consider untreated sisal rope wrapped tightly.

If the wood isn't safe, i wouldn't chance it even with it wrappped. KeeWee could chew through the rap in a minute, and you wouldn't even notice unless your eyes were glued to him 24/7
