Pdennis

Hi, I live in North Carolina and I'm having a hard time finding a breeder for African Grey's. We live near Charlotte, NC and hope to find a breeder fairly close by. If anyone can help us in our search we would really appreciate it. We would like to have a young one if possible, maybe a year old or younger and one that has been hand fed. We missed our local show and the 2010 dates have not been posted as of yet.

Thanks

PDennis of Mt. Pleasant,NC

Check BirdBreeders.com - Bird Breeders Directory of Availability and Parrot Breeders . They have a search function you can use.

There are a few 'ok' breeders there. Bella's is decent. However, do not get a Grey from Royal Bird Co. They're mill breeders and rather dishonest from what several of my clients have shown. Good luck finding your baby!

Thank you sooo... much for the info. I really appreciate it. One more question if you don't mind. I currently have a Quaker, how do you think she will react if we bring a grey into the house as well. We have had our Quaker for a little over a year now, do you think this will upset her?

Are you strongly bonded to the quaker?? I know that when my conure was introduced to a new bird he defended me and treated my Oliver like crap (jealousy issues Im sure). Its never really easy to tell how a bird will react to a new bird, especially if he's the only one in his household. Every bird is different!!

It might upset her, but she'll get used to it. You'll face the repercussions of her displeasure more than the Greys will - unless she goes batnuts and goes after the Greys...

Thanks so much for the feedback guys!! I'm hoping my Nahni (my quaker) will welcome the company of a grey. I do work during the day and I m thinking it could be a nice companionship for both birds. Any Ideas of when my quaker will start to speak a few words? Right now all she does is bark like my three shih-tzu's. LOL.... She's a 1 1/2 years old.

Thanks again!!

PD

Your quaker may speak or may never speak. There's really no guarantee with birds.

I had a parakeet once and when I introduced my grey to the parakeet
the grey reached out and put the parakeet's whole head inside her mouth.
She was only playing, she did not mean any harm. After this, I kept them seperate.

Oh wow..... ! I did find a grey and we will be picking it up from the breeder next week after Thanksgiving. I'm soo.. excited. I will keep them apart for a while until I know they both are ready to be introduced. I'm more afraid for the grey as my quaker is pretty fiesty. hahaha..... she's small but puts out a big bang. LOL.... thanks for your post.
