I have the basic DVD set, and even though I won't support them anymore because of their marketing tactics, I don't really want to get rid of the set I did buy. The techniques in the video are sound. Just remember, they techniques/concepts they claim as theirs are not. They are just taken from a number of other, more experienced, more reputable, positive reinforcement bird/animal trainers like Barbara Heidenreich and Steve Martin, among many others.
I bought the whole starter set new from them for $50. They marketed it as a special, limited time only kind of deal, but that's how they market everything all the time, so you can probably still get it for the same price. If you're willing to buy one from someone else anyway, I would just buy it from them and get the whole set new. They give you a money back guarantee too, so if you watch it and don't like it, you supposedly can return it within a reasonable amount of time. I can't remember exactly how long (at least a month), but it's long enough for you to be able to look it all over. I think the amount of information you get is worth the money, and it's decent information. If I remember right, you get 2 DVD's, 3 audio downloads via email, a free 30 min consultation with a parrot behaviorist, and a clicker. There may be other stuff, but I can't remember now. I kept mine, because there is nothing wrong with the techniques in the video, and I like having any information I can find. If you want any of their DVD's beyond the basic starter set, they are going to cost you a lot more money. I think their trick training DVD is over $100. You can learn more and get better guidance and even one on one instruction by joining Bird-Click on Yahoo Groups. If you're interested in actively training your bird(s), I recommend checking them out. The amount and quality of information and advice they can give is almost overwhelming. Happy Training! although the information they steal and resell is sound, please dont support it, or them monetarily.

Will do if I hear they have...I actually think mine is still wrapped o.0 and if not I haven't actually watched it....ever.
See cause I watched the second one which threw me into a rage....but I always assumed the quality was pretty much identical. o.0 |

Pippy - I think the point is that Whomack went around and visited and learned from all these bird behaviorists....then he just sort of packaged the info and marketed it.
Technically, it's not "stealing" per se, but in a scholarly manner, it's totally bogus to use others research without properly crediting them for it. Then again, for all we know he had proper permission to do this. it's not like anyone's complained, have they? But, honestly? They whole "get close then leave then come back then touch then leave then come back...etc" method is something that may make sense but I doubt it would work for every parrot--particularly the ones that are screaming and biting and WANT your attention--and honestly I haven't seen anyone else say that they've used that method or reccomend it. But I guess it's fast results and that's what people want? I agree though...it does bother me when someone basically charges an arm and a leg for information that is available through a google search. Especially when it's low quality packaging. And what REALLY drives me nuts is when they come up with this mysterious value to make you sound like you're getting a deal. "This is over a 100 dollar value!" Really? Because no it isn't. I could have made a better quality product with a logitech 2 meg webcam and quicktime. Which is a one time cost. In fact? I actually paid for a class that did just this--where I can DL the videos freely for keeps, and even upload them to my ipod to have on the go. Err...no, this was not a parrot education course. heck, I could even rip parrot training videos from youtube and convert them to whatever file I wish for free if that's what I really wanted... The point is, this kind of crap takes advantage of people who aren't media and web savvy, and it's messed up. You know that second one I returned was nearly 90 bucks? 90 bucks! With crap audio over a powerpoint presentation. Oh, the information was sound...but the quality was reprehensible for that cost. I felt like I was watching a highschool report. |
