the only problem I see for putting two 'tiels in the same cage is that the smaller birds have a tendency to bond to eachother, and not quite as much to you. Then, it becomes unhealthy if they bond with eachother like that and something happens to one. If one were to die, the other would be lucky to last a year. If you keep them in seperate cages, but in the same room they'll still get along, but they won't be as dependent on eachother. A bird's cage is their terretory, i don't know if it's a good idea to upset that. I'd ask my avian vet for advice on that though.

I can't agree with ya there LTW but I'd like to hear though if anyone else does? Perhaps you should have prefaced that statement with "IMO & IME". |

Well, like most advice on this board, it's from my own experience....I know it's probably not accross the board. It would also depend on how long they had been together. With smaller birds that have bonded and lived together in the same cage I've found they don't last as long once seperated. Larger birds, on the other hand, don't seem to suffer as much.
Again though....just personal experience

Nina:
I don't agree either based on my experience. I have often had to find loving homes for the surviving partners in tiel homes. I do think that birds are more likely to bond with their humans if they don't share a cage with another bird. Heck, I've had tiels that were 10 and older who had many other bird friends come and go. These weren't my birds, but birds owned for many years by family and friends. I am allergic to them and can't have them in my home. THE OUTLAW

I'm glad to hear that not everyone has shared my (heart breaking) experience in this :D It gives me hope for future pairs that are split that I come accross :D This isn't the first thing I've learned just since I joined this board, and I'm sure it won't be the last...It's really nice to have made new human-feathered-friends and have someone to turn to when I need advice or encouragement from the bird world :D
