NC Shows?
Would love to attend a show before I buy a new bird. Seeking Poicephalus (Red Belly) classes/breeders, also Parrotlets. Maybe a canary show, just for fun. Please advise - we'll drive a few hours, if needed, from Charlotte, NC - but unless it's a huge show, don't want to overnight at this point. Not familiar w/bird show formats - pardon my ignorance in asking questions. If it's not "classes" - what are they called? Thanks mucho. D.

How close are you to Aiken SC? We went to this show last year and it would be good for supplies. They had lots of lovebirds. Even a toucan.(not for sale just for show). It's about a 2 1/2 hour drive for me, but not much traffic, going in through Augusta GA. We may try to go if hubby feels like it.
February 11-12 - Aiken, SC - Exotic Bird Fair & Sale Aiken Fairgrounds Jaycee Building, 1566 Columbia Hwy N, exit 22 I20 (423)-240-8423 Sat 9am-5pm, Sun 10am-4pm, Admission: $3, 12 and under free

There is a show 2 or 3 times a year in Morganton, would have to look up dates. Small ones here in Asheville. Seem like there is one near Sylva too. Huge one in Atlanta.
Phoenix Landing Rescue here does seminars about everything from care to making toys etc. Not sure what kinds of classes you mean????

Thanks and more ????s!
Wow. I guess my ignorance is showing. I wouldn't mind going to Morganton, or Ashville - Raleigh. Would love dates. Atlanta if the timing was right for a family visit. I was hoping to meet w/breeders, learn about various species of hookbills, etc.
I've been to a few "show and sales" in Charlotte - but aren't there shows with competitions between singers, color breds, whatever?for canary breeders? How do I find out about those? Also, do they have those kind of competitions for hookbills? We have two canaries now - American Singers, both. Great birds, although George (our youngster) has been a challenge - puberty! We want to add a hookbill - have been looking for Red Bellies, although some folks have suggested Pionus. It would be our first hookbill. Had a parakeet as a child, but would like something a bit bigger. Just would like to be able to drive to a congregation of breeders/birds and get some firsthand info. We enjoy seeing all the birds and really do want to learn all we can to make best decision - especially since they are so long lived. So I thought a competitive show would be good place to learn what to look for in a bird (spent 6 months traveling 5 states to find dog - and she's perfect for us - so I have patience to look if I know what I'm looking for beyond species name!) Thanks for your answers, all of you! Any dates/locations/contacts/thoughts much appreciated. Am I looking for the wrong thing? Do hookbills not compete like the canaries? |

Raleigh-Durham Caged Bird Society Bird Fair
I plan to attend this show because this is similar to a dog or cat show where birds will be displayed and judged.
Several of the shows I have been to were simply glorified flea markets and I was worried about bringing some disease back to my flock. There is a vendor area separate from the display/show area as well. Raleigh-Durham Caged Bird Society 18th Annual Pet Bird Fair and Shows Free Admission Saturday, May 27, 2006 - 9:00 to 5:00pm Located in The Kerr Scott Building North Carolina State Fairgrounds Raleigh, NC Bird Display Area Birds From Around The World Huge Fantastic Raffle, Food & Drink Large Selection of vendors Premier NFSS Finch Show 8th Annual NCS Cockatiel Show 5th Annual ALBS Lovebird Show 3rd Annual SPBE Parrot Show If you are interested in more information, would like to advertise in the Bird Fair program, or donate to the raffle, please email Carol Wilson at legswilson@aol.com HEALTH CERTIFICATES REQUIRED FOR OUT OF STATE BIRDS (See General information for vendors & exhibitors section). NO PET BIRDS OR POULTRY ALLOWED IN THE KERR SCOTT BUILDING! (except by invitation, for the exhibits) |
