Port Charlotte Bird Fair

Hi everyone~

I have been patiently waiting and lovingly preparing my home for a baby Timneh Grey. I heard about this bird fair from one of the breeders in the SW Florida area. I have searched and read these boards extensively and it seems like there is a pretty good amount of SW Florida breeders.

I would love to hook up with a breeder from this board, I've read so much, I feel like I'm getting to know everyone and their FIDS.

I plan on going to the Port Charlotte Bird Fair in hopes of finding my bird. I'm a little scared about the dire warnings about buying birds from bird fairs, but if the people from these boards are there, I will feel much better.

So, are there any breeders from the SW Florida area planning on attending? This is my first bird show and I'm not sure what to expect.

Any hints and help are appreciated.

Jac

I would suggest if you find a breeder there you visit their Aviary before you put any kind of deposit down on their bird. If you cannot resist the bird then at least ASK if you can come visit. If they say no then DONT BUY THE BIRD! Big red flag! make sure there is a health guarantee first and what it consists of. There are lots of nasty breeders in FL due to the easy climate so question them good.

Thank you, that's a very good idea. I am going to continue to practice my patience, and at the very least, hopefully develop a couple of good contacts or leads with local breeders who may be able to help me in the future, if not right now.

There's a world class bird vet in naples. I can say nothing but good things about her. She knows all the aviaries. She is very good with exotic hookbills and works with both the Univ of fla and busch gardens. She would be someone to talk to regarding breeders species and checking a bird out.
She's at all creatures animal hospital 239 593 1232.
