QLD State Bird Fair Review 2007

Back from the bird fair and for once I didn't buy a new bird! Chaska and company can relax that there will be no new siblings this year!

This year seemed to have a lower turnout than previous years. I heard people blaming both the drought and higher petrol prices. There were only 2 stalls for toys. On the bright side, there is a new supplier selling flight suits and harnesses at Aussie prices so we don't have to ship from the USA. The colour selection wasn't the best and the patterns just didn't say "bird" to me. The solid colour ones were nice but they need to get more choices and consider the colours of birds.

Asiatics ruled the roost with Alexandrines, IRN's, Moustache parrots and Plumheads in abundance. The variety of IRN mutations was amazing, photos coming soon!

Cockatiels and Budgies were in surprisingly short supply. After the Asiatics, South Americans were popular with Jandays, Nandays, Greencheeks and Sunnies widely available.

No Ekkies were on sale, there was a rare lutino Galah and two Corellas, also a couple stalls with finches.

I bought that Tiki Takeout foraging toy, a small sized flightsuit for Chaska and Yaxche, it's WHITE so maybe I can dye it or something? I also bought some videos that were marked way down on Aussie parrots in the wild, one about Pyrrhura Conures and a new (to Australia) dvd called Captive Foraging.

I won one of the raffle prizes-a preening toy and a happy hut!

Paradise for Asiatics!! I tried to include the prices where possible. The Alexes were $200.

Let's move on to South America. These Hahn's Macaws were very sweet but the price tag wasn't too sweet!



Sunnies are holding their price for now.


Two months ago I got Yaxche for $200-a stoke of luck as the price went back up.

Caiques coming down in price to $2000--maybe next year!! I forgot to ask about the Senegals

This beauty was called a "cobalt" Princess but I didn't think his blue was THAT much darker than Tjinimin's.
