I went to my first bird mart yesterday!
There's a small bird mart here in town every year. I totally forgot about it last year but we remembered yesterday and had a good time.
Remy got a new rope hoop swing to replace his nasty one, and he also got a new huge boing. Marley got a new popsicle stick toy, and Gracie got a new huge toy filled with all her favorite things - loofah and plastic to chew to bits. All were far more inexpensive than buying online or at a store.
My 12 year old, who fancies himself an apprentice toy maker, got to spend some time with one of the vendors, who showed him lots of tips on toy making.
And I got to see lots of birds I'd never seen in person before, like canary winged parakeets, opalines, red rumps, etc. I was a bit stunned at the poor condition of some of the birds for sale. One vendor had a bunch of turquoise GCC's but they were absolutely ratty looking and covered in stress bars. One of them had a bad scissor beak, but he was so sweet. Tugged my heartstrings, but we left him there.
Plus, I finally got to see some of the Marvelous brand cages on display in person and I think they look pretty cool. One of the styles has horizontal bars all around which is really nice, and I like the latches and feeder bowl doors. The two-tone colors are pretty. Overall, I was disappointed at how many cages were for sale in general - I expected a lot more. Most were real junk.
An adventure, for sure!
