Try looking at your local grocery store in the baking isle. That's the best/fastest suggestion I could have for you. Be careful of macadamia nuts, my research suggest they are high in fat. 96% fat and only 4% protein and 2% carbs - pretty much the highest fat content of all the nuts.

I've been known to be wrong before tho... so do some research of your own if you like.

They are okay to give to the larger macaws, mainly the hyacinths. Would not give too much too frequently though, like PowerBBS mentioned they are very high in fat. Hyacinths require a higher than normal fat diet. Our Pet Store here sells them, but I think you will probably have to buy them on-line. Shelled would probably be best for your Scarlet. The only two types of birds I have seen to be able to open those REALLY HARD shells are the Hyacinths and Toos. I hit them with a mallot (several times) before they pop open and only give mine as "good bird" treats.

I called the local grocery store & they only sell in the summer months. Thanks for the info tho. I really just wanted to try something else because this crazy bird of mine only eats walnuts.

Something of an aside. My dad has a macadamia tree and I have been looking for ages to find a good nutcracker for them, since they are so hard. I would hate to tell you how many we have gone through. Just got two (one for me and one for Fathers' Day) a couple of days ago and they are awesome Bono Macs of Hawaii
