Beak Appetit

I just discovered this product - is it something that can be given every day?
Is it something that is considered their staple diet?
It sounds pretty good, but not sure if its good.

Right now, my budgie won't eat a whole lot - just seed mix and zupreem pellets. Not a big fan of fresh veggies.

My new sennie gets a premium parrot mix but pretty much just picks out the safflower seeds and ignores most of the other stuff in there and will only pick on the pellets. He eats the zupreem fruity -purple ones only and plays with the roudybush and grinds up the harrison's. (he loves snap peas and apples, but not a whole lot of other fresh veggies or fruit). There's a lot of waste so I'm looking for something that he will eat without picking out favorites.

So I thought I might give this Beak Appetit a try.
For those who use this, how much and how often is it offered?
Do you mix it with fresh veggies or is it in a bowl by itself?

I’ve fed Beak Appetit to my Sennie, Pepper, every morning for over three years. I think it’s a great product to use as part of a healthy diet. Here’s a link to my page on Pepper's Web Site on Food and Feeding. It gives suggestions on preparing, storing and feeding Beak Appetit.
Click here for a recent thread we had here on feeding Beak Appetit.

As you can tell, I’m an advocate for feeding Beak Appetit . . . though you could get similar grains, nuts and spices and add some beans and multigrain pasta too and make your own healthy blends for a much lower cost.

I personally bought dr fosters brand name, have like 20 pounds of assorted flavors that none of my birds will eat...Sometimes I understand why they say eat like a bird eh.
For some reason my birds just won't do pasta or beans

I think it also depends on the energy requirements of your bird. I'm pretty strict about what my amazon eats. I think a lot of these meals woul add quite a few calories to her diet. I would still advocate persisting with fresh veggies -- dandelion, broccoli, etc.
These packaged meals sometimes have a lot of nuts and sugar, if there are fruits.

My birds love the Prestige mixture which is mixed the same way! They have spicy versions which really excite the fids! I have used Beak Appetit in the past but couldn't get them to eat much of it! Good luck!

My Linnies and my Conure both love some of the Beak Appetit varieties. Calypso Spice and Cream of Tweet seem to be a big hit. They also love Crazy Corn's Kung Fu Yum. I usually add a hardboiled egg and fresh chopped veggies to the mix....or at the very least some Quiko egg food.

They get this at least once a day as a part of their main diet.

I did however experiment with mixing my own blend this morning and it seems to be accepted: brown rice, dried split peas, barley, cracked wheat, Anise (to season) and Cinnamon (to season). I didn't add any vegies or egg to it until I knew they liked it. I added a little Quiko and it seems they have approved :) This mix was much cheaper than the Beak Appetit for sure.

My flock loves the slow cook types, hates the fast-cook beak appetit. I feed it twice a day with China Prairie fresh sprouted grains, some mixed beans, ground harrison's pellets and fresh broccoli, kale, carrot and apple ground in a processor. Add some dende oil and mix. They gobble it down.

All of my birds (except Lily...for now) LOVE it. It took a few days to get them to try it and they immediately realized they love it.

I agree with "Pepper's Pa". Beak Appetit is a WONDERFUL product. I feed it everyday, sometimes twice per day mixed with pasta, 13 bean mix, veggies, and other good stuff.
I make big batches and freeze the leftovers in ice cube trays. When it's time to feed it, I just pop it onto a plate, and stick it in the microwave for 20 seconds. :)
It's really easy.

Using the ice cube tray method is the way to go. Each bag of Beak Appetit fills two ice cube trays (32 cubes of food) with a few additional days worth of food remaining. To give Pepper a daily variety, I prepare one different blend of Beak Appetit for six consecutive days. I then freeze half of the cubes from each blend in their own Ziploc Freezer Bag. To reduce the possibility of freezer burn, I vacuum pack half of these bags. Six days of cooking produces 192 cubes or over half a year’s worth of breakfast servings. On a six-day cycle, I feed Pepper a different blend every day.
I will share one of the unexpected expenses of owning a companion parrot. Since all this frozen food takes up a lot of space in the freezer, I purchased a small separate freezer to keep most of my food and half of Pepper’s stored in. Luckily, since I eat plenty of fresh veggies, we can share the food in the refrigerator.
