The most current No No List

US food and drug just released a list of the top 12 fruits/vegetables that (within the whole fruit) contains the highest amount of toxins from pesticides etc....

I remember reading a post from a woman last year that lost her, I believe Macaws (I know they were large birds becauses I thought of little Wawa, my conure). She fed them local apples, even washed and peeled them not knowing they were sprayed and the spray gets into the fruit itself. The apples killed her whole flock. What a tradgedy.... I can't imagine.

Buy unsprayed, organic, local, produce if you can find it.

Here is an excerpt: (so imagine what this does to our fids!)

What can you do to reduce your intake of pesticides? Knowing which foods consistently contain the largest amounts of pesticides is the first step. The Environmental Working Group obtained data from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on the amount of pesticides in 42 fruits and vegetables. They found that more than half of the total dietary risk from pesticides in these foods was concentrated in just 12 foods.

The pesticides that were found in these foods are classified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as probable human carcinogens, nervous system poisons and endocrine system disrupters.

Twelve most pesticide-contaminated foods:
1. Strawberries
2. (tie) Bell Peppers, Green and Red
3. (tie) Spinach
4. Cherries, U.S.
5. Peaches
6. Cantaloupe, Mexican
7. Celery
8. Apples
9. Apricots
10. Green beans
11. Grapes, Chilean
12. Cucumbers

Seems that nothing is safe anymore. Pretty soon we will all be eating dehydrated pellets. :/

Unfortunately cleaning the food does not remove the pesticides from them. The pesticide is absorbed into the food. That's why it is important to know about the foods and where they are from.Your safest option is to buy organic.

Thank you Sashagirl,
I was trying to make it clear that this poison is in every cell of the food... washing does nothing.

organic does not equal safe either, just because it is organic. If not properly cleaned it too may be harmful.

A Chiropractor I traded work for some time ago had teamed up with a dentist and together they were tracking/charting the changes in the human body since the use of hormones and modern pesticides in our food. It was pretty amazing. And a bit scary.
