Pellet and Seed mix

Hi everyone!

I just picked up my IRN on Friday, the breeder said he weaned him onto a mix of Pretty Bird Pellets and Seeds. I bought both bags and mixed some up for him, but I can't really tell if he is eating the pellets! I know he is eating the seeds, especially since I can see them on the floor, especially the sunflower seed shells haha.

I actually don't see any pellets "spilled" out onto the cage bottom either, so maybe he is eating them I just can't tell.

Anyway, is it wise to mix some seeds in with his pellet? Should I maybe not put the seeds in and see what he does with just the pellets?

Just a worried first time IRN owner (I did have birds when I was younger, but that was before pellets were recommended). Thank you for your time!

I give pellets in the am along with the extras like veggies and fruits. Then in the late afternoon give a small am't of seed in a seperate dish. Birds will always choose seeds over pellets if they have both at the same time.

Hmm, that sounds like a pretty good idea to me. Maybe I will put pellets in his dish and then sprinkle the seed ontop in the evenings. That should help me monitor it and make sure he isn't eating too much seed! Thanks!
