Red face Cannabis seeds?

Hello, birdboard, quick question.

I have some cannabis seeds laying around, I was wondering if this might be a good treat for my lovebird?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to "get her high" but she was eyeing them earlier, obviously tempted to try one. I imagine the taste would be pleasant and I'm fairly sure it would not have any mind-altering effects on her, as THC must be realeased via burning, or absorbtion into fat, etc.

Just wanted to check in to make sure it isn't toxic, or if anyone has offered their bird this treat before.

Talking Cannabis seeds, again.

Hello, birdborad, I'm sorry that I had to create a new thread but my old one was locked, as apparently it wasn't suitable for discussion.

I did a bit of research and found out that hemp seeds are actually highly nutritious and tasty. It is included in many brands of birdfeed. There is not any THC in the seeds.

I didn't want fellow bird owners to be under the false impression that hemp seeds (cannabis seeds) are bad for your winged loves, as the person who locked my previous thread was leading us to believe.

Here is a link to support this thread:

Have a lovely day everyone!

So why not google your question in the first place??

I think the topic mixing birds with drugs on a bird forum is going to rub people up the wrong way. I know I wouldn't go out of my way to buy cannabis seeds to feed my birds... toxic or not.

Also, what gbird said was "PLEASE DO NOT SMOKE AROUND YOUR BIRD. BOTH CIGARETTE & POT SMOKE IS FATAL TO BIRDS", she didn't state anything about the seed itself.

From what you said in your last post, I don't know for sure but I don't think the ones you have would be bird safe. I doubt they are sterile.(Provided you got them from a bag of not bird seed) I would assume there would be residual thc from being in with the product.

Oh pleez people! You can buy them by the POUND at bird specialty stores and bird fairs. They are sterile! THEY ARE NOT DRUGS TO BIRDS. They dont have to be sterile to be safe. AGAIN, they are not drugs for birds. They are steril so they wont grow - not sterile to be clean. Any topic is gonna rub somebody the wrong way and thats no reason to lock a thread. It never got a chance.

Because I wanted to ask fellow bird owners, not google.

I really am sorry about that. I didn't mean to bring up drugs. It just so happened the type of seed I was curious about, when fully mature and female, flowers into something that can alter your state of mind when smoked or ingested certain ways. Still not really a drug, as it is a naturally occouring plant, not something synthesized out of a lab, but let's not even get into that kind of controversary.

I wouldn't either, but I noticed that she was acting curious about them.

She also said something along the lines of, "ABSOLOUTELY DO NOT FEED THEM TO YOUR BIRD".

I'm sorry if I upset anyone! This post was not an attact at gbird, or anyone who agrees with her. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew that hemp seeds are infact good for birds.

I don't understand the purpose of giving these seeds to your birds and why you have disrespected the moderators of this forum by re posting this thread. I am going to lock it as was done before for this is not they type of subjects we want on our forum.

I will make this short.

I apologize to Lydia for locking this thread. I realize she was just asking a question. I misunderstood due to her wording, and using the word Cannibus instead of Hemp in the original post.

I have merged the 2 threads she made, and unlocked them both.

Lets please try and have a healthy mature discussion on the subject of Hemp.

Thanx
Gayla

This stuff grows wild in Kansas...Of course I would feed the seeds to the birds who knows whats on them here(they drive by and spray at night for mosquitos without even telling anyone)
I did see hemp seeds at the healthfood store but I thought I read somewhere that hemp made birds want to breed (I could be wrong but Im sure I read it on a post somewhere)
