Want to make clear.....

Sterile Cannabis (Hemp) seeds can be found by the pound at bird fairs and bird specific stores. They can also be found in some commercial mixes. They are safe for birds and in no way "mind altering", sterile or not. Common in finch and Canary hobbyist and in fact I have fed them to my parrotlets from time to time in the mix during breeding season. It is said to help but I did not see any different results.
I dont understand why the last thread on this was locked. Someone was asking a legitimate question (regardless of lifestyle, or even medicinal prescription?) And it saddened me that when the first response came from someone lacking knowledge in that area, jumped in with an incorrect and irresponsible statement, that the thread was not corrected before being locked.
To answer the question, Yes , Hemp seeds can be fed to our birds and can be purchased by the bagful at bird fairs and bird specific stores.

We dont go out of our way. They are purchase wholesale from seed dealers and I purchase them at the bird fair or store. Where i get allot of "other" special foods. Hemp is used in many ways and harvested all over the world for its rope and fabric qualities. The seeds come with that. They are super heated so they DONT make it into the "drug market" and are a by-product of the fabric and rope industry. Read labels, You can find them in other commercial mixes as well. I have sold hemp dog collars in my shop before and if you google them you can find them online.
I makes me mad when abusers create situations like this for everybody. Besides that look at how I have to sign my life away and show all my IDs just to get the only sinus meds that work well for me! Now THAT is going out of my way, lol, when I can buy hemp seeds at the store.

Hemp seeds- canabis seeds- that are sold in the pet trade, are THC free. They are not 'drugs', do not have any drug like affects, and actually have good qualities and health properties and help with beak and feet. They do however rile hormones, and can be found in the majority of all pellets and seed mixes.

Hemp seed ranks right up there with Quinoa and Millet for nutritional value. THC is a product found in mature plants, not the seeds.
They are sold at heath food stores as well. Like Whole Foods.

Hemp seed is a healthful food with an omega 3 profile very similar to flax. Hemp seeds and oil pressed from them have no narcotic content, but because it comes from the cannabis plant, it remains controversial in the United States, where growing hemp is still illegal. Most hemp is grown in Canada, China and India.

Look for shelled hemp seeds, which are available in containers and in some bulk departments. Hemp seeds are similar in flavor to sunflower seeds and can be used like them and flax seeds in or on baked goods, salads, yogurt and cereal. They can also be roasted and eaten as a snack or ground and used as flour.

That is true, and they are also delicious in cereal (for humans too!). But I have heard that they make birds hormonal. I don't know if there is truth to it or if it is an urban legend.

Hello?

Hemp and marijana are two entirely different plant species. They are closely related, however, hemp, even mature, will not intoxicate you in the least. You can go to walmart or hobby lobby and buy hemp by the spool. It's great for making toys

Sterilized hemp seeds are 100% legal in the United States.

Marajuana seeds are 100% illegal in the United States, steril or not.

I buy it for my birds and they get it atleast weekly. I use it when I make them bird bread and they get some on their pellets and love it. I started using it when the bird store I go to suggested it for one of my birds with behavioral problems. I cant fully say if she is a little better from the seeds but I continue to use them for everyone.

I would say that for the caiques species, hemp can completely contribute to the hormones of a bird. I've seen the transformation pre-and post hemp with caiques.
